he never looks like he combs his hair or brushes his teeth anymore, and he's got a fucking tax-payer supported valet! He just simply doesn't give a shit anymore, the booze/pills have taken over.

6. He's been looking a little ragged for the last few years, but it does seem
to be gaining on him.

Sometimes he looks heavily made up, no doubt to cover the signs of heavy drinking and/or side effects of prescription drugs.

I read somewhere that someone who met him said that he had that "alcoholic smell" to him, where the liquor leeches out through the skin. Anyone who's ever been around a heavy drinker knows that smell. And no amount of cologne can cover it up.

I certainly don't know if it's true or not, but I remember reading the story about it. And it is a bit concerning to think that an alcoholic is running this country.

13. here he is in heavy makeup >
And he still looks like shit. I know that smell. I remember working with someone who smelled like that in the mornings, and I couldn't figure out if he was drinking vodka in the a.m. and covering it with Listerine, or if it was just still leeching out from the night before. Hard to tell.

11. I think that his liver is failing.
I also think that he has severe brain damage as a result of lifelong hard drinking and drugging. His arms flap uncontrollably. He has poor muscle coordination. He's gained weight in the abdomen (ascites) and lost weight everywhere else, with obvious loss of muscle tone all over his body. His skin is dark red. His hands and face are covered with blotches. He gets rashes and bleeding sores on his face and hands. His hair is always unkempt - probably as a result of uncontrollably running his hands through it. His clothes never look right on him - they're always pulled to one side or hitched up or something. He obviously fidgets with his clothes and hair. He's frequently unshaven in public now.

Google the effects of severe liver disease.

American Nightmare: Gonzales "wrong and illegal and unethical"

Wednesday, 29 August 2007, Column: Greg Palast
...
So what is most frightening is not the resignation of Alberto Gonzales, the Pinocchio of prosecutorial misconduct, but the resignation of Karl Rove. Because New Mexico 2004 was just the testing ground for the roll-out of the "ID" attack planned for 2008.

And Rove who three decades ago cut his political fangs as chief of the Nixon Youth, is ready to roll. To say Rove left his White House job under a cloud is nonsense. He just went into free-agent status, an electoral hitman ready to jump on the next GOP nominee's black-ops squad. The fact that Rove's venomous assistant, Tim Griffin, was set up to work for the campaign Fred Thompson, is a sign that the Lord Voldemort of vote suppression is preparing to practice his Dark Arts in '08.

It was Rove who convinced Bush to fire upright prosecutors and replace them with Rove-bots ready to strike out at fraudulent (i.e. Democratic) voters.

I just saw the birdcage again after many years, and enjoyed it more than I did the first time, but when I saw Nathan Lane come out as Val's mom, thats the 1st thing I thought. I bet he used Babs as his inspiration - even down to the fake pearls.

Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 11:22 AM by backscatter712
I swear, it's like Dorian Gray in reverse. I've seen it happen to Clinton, Bush 41 and Reagan. They come in looking lively, youngish and spry, and come out looking like they're ready for the nursing home, like they've aged 20 years. I guess the job's pretty damned stressful.

Though I can't say I'd be shocked or surprised to see that Bush is accelerating the process with booze...

33. I think it's stress
Clinton looked bad at the end of his term. But, shit, I can't imagine having to be "on" all the time. Not being able to just say "fuck it" and take a break for a few days. No worry about the office or the job. Knowing everything you do and say will be scrutinized, analyzed and dissected to the Nth degree. All Presidents have to put up with tons of shit from people. I think people in this country better be damned glad dueling is no longer legal.

he looks awful. This picture was taken in October, 2004.

I don't know whether to attribute the change to stress, drinking, illness or the fact that "prezidentin" is harder work that he thought it would be.
