and how to write the real story
Washington, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) The US Government Accountability Office recognized the failure of the US policy for Iraq in the rough draft of a report published Thursday by The Washington Post.
GAO questions an optimistic analysis, presented by the Bush administration a few days before when Gen. Davis Petraus and Ambassador Ryan Cocker presented their considerations about the situation in that country.
The GAO warns that the level of violence in Iraq is still high, although effectiveness of the offensive launched by the Pentagon is in doubt due to the death of civilians.
It also criticizes that the nation still lacks a key legislation; questions the objective of the $10 million requested from Congress to rebuild the Arab State, and said local troops have decreased.
Although it did not make any political recommendation, the report suggested that future assessments by the administration would be more useful if they were based on detailed opinions by multiple agencies.
The official that made the report public said he was afraid because the text was in the hands of the Defense Department and Washington already changed the results of an investigation carried out by 16 federal agencies.
