Poll question: So long as it's consensual between adults & no one gets hurt,d'you care about others sex preferences
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 04:14 PM by uppityperson
For the record, I have been called somewhat of a prude, but I really don't care what others do, so long as it is consensual, between adults, and no one gets hurt (beyond what they want). I don't care if you are asexual, active, inactive, who, where, etc and don't think I have a right to cast judgment on anyone else whether they are the same as me or different.

Using "consensual, adults, no one gets hurt beyond what they want" for a basis, and leaving politics out of it (not talking about nasty bigoted republicans or others who vote and work against equal rights) how many people here do care? How many people do think it is within their rights to cast judgment on others?

Edited to add I am NOT asking about orientation, but about activities or lack thereof. NOT gay/hetero/etc, but WHAT you do, WHAT others do. And the non-political disclaimer is hoping to make clear I am NOT asking about any one person's stuff, or even any 1 party, but in general.

1. The Craig issue has nothing to do with consenting adults.

3. Hence the nonpolitical bit of this poll. Talking in general, not about Craige specifically.

I think these things should be done in a private place not public bathrooms where my grandsons may go.

32. Me Too
I have a teenage daughter. For that matter I don't want to go to a public restroom and see people having sex. Guess I am a prude.

15. I don't agree
Had it been a real person looking for sex, and not an undercover cop, it would be consensual. It's the setting that's perverted (public area), and the hypocracy that's enraging.

Since it WASN'T, it's called "Disorderly Conduct" - and there ain't no "would be" about that.

then it wouldn't be consensual, now would it?

Solo, double, triples, group, in a box, with a fox, etc etc etc. WHAT you do, not orientation. What you do with your orientation, actions, not orientation. There is a difference and here I mean specifically preferences.

6. I hear a lot of people claim that they don't care
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 04:20 PM by ThomCat
who someone else has sex with. But many of those same people also don't care if GLBT people face harassment, prejudice, slurs, and double standards. This idea of "not caring" is usually a dodge.

I wish more people cared. People should care in a positive way. That might resolve some problems. Not caring usually just lets others get away with caring a whole lot in a very negative way.

Just my $0.02 as someone who sees a lot of people who "don't care."

8. I care for equal rights. But I don't care WHAT you do with someone else.
I care about the harassment, etc, I care that people suffer severe problems due to orientation. But I am asking here NOT about orientation, but about what people DO with each other, or by themselves. Of course people should care that others have equal rights, equal stuff, not harassment, based on their orientation. But this is about actions, what do you chose to DO? All heterosexuals do not have sex the same way, all homosexuals do not have sex the same way, what I might want to do with my partner is different than you. Of course people should care about making orientation so it really doesn't matter (does that make sense) but here I am asking about actions.

If someone does something you wouldn't do (not orientation but action), if it is consensual, adult, no one gets hurt beyond what they wish, do you care?

9. "If someone does something you wouldn't do (not orientation but action),
if it is consensual, adult, no one gets hurt beyond what they wish, do you care?"

That depends. If they're at risk of trouble, for whatever reason, because of what they're doing then yes I care. I might not necessarily care about the specific action, but I'll sure as hell care about the trouble.

Again, By taking everything out of social context it's real easy to make total apathy into a virtue. It's a total dodge.

10. I don't care BUT...
would like to add that any sexual conduct in a public restroom is inappropriate. I'd hate to send a boy into a restroom alone and have people tapping their feet at him (or whatever happens to girls in a similar situation).

So, yes, their preference is their own -- unless it's a public activity and then I say GET A ROOM!

Many people think this whole thing is about whether someone is gay or not. It's not, to me. It's like finding out that the person who claims to be a virgin and wants to outlaw sex outside of marriage but has had more partners than she/he has fingers and toes.

11. Something I've wondered....
How do they do anything in two different stalls? Or, would they have gone into the same stall at some point? Seeing a hand waving like that signals me to pass toilet paper over.

I'm sorry if that question offends anyone - I just have tried to figure out what the gameplan is if these two people had had a tryst.

12. There Is ONLY ONE Perversion
There is only one perversion. ONE!

And that is non-consentual sex.

Anything else -- ANYTHING ELSE -- is OK.

I get sick and tired of hearing people saying things like, "Oh, it's just so sick and perverted".

No.

It's not.

Unless it is non-consentual.

ANY Consentual Sex is healthy and good, and NOT perverted.

hence the non-political disclaimer. There are lots of threads on elected officials' hypocrisy, this is just about sexual preferences of others, not involving politics.

I very much care about elected officials' hypocrisy. Off to another topic about that since I'm trying to keep this question focused.

26. Non-practicing whatever-o-philes = unnacceptable? Mind over matter?
How does one tell what people find attractive, and if they don't act in any way how would you punish them?
What would you charge them with, after your mind reading police catch them?
This is used as argument for hate crimes but with important difference - no action, not even speech is involved, just thinking/desire(often pre-thought)...
"Whoah, that is a nice looking, over 18 looking person...but then find out somehow that s/he is too young...okay, did the attraction go away, or just the idea of ACTION taken? What if "she" turns around to reveal that she is a he? Am I now gay, AND a pedo? Damn, bad day!
And how long does that mental readjustment take?
Is there a 5 second rule before the thought police get you?

If age of consent is 18 in one country, and 16 in another - does jumping from one side of border to another make the person magically change?
"Pervert -jumps -not a pervert --jumps back -- parvert again!"
Or different cultures, or in recent past when it was common to wed at 13?

Or less controversially, sodomy laws from state to state.
"I am standing on 4 corners border. 1/2 of me is normal, 1/4 perv, 1/4 legally able to sell my superior cocksucking skills!"

This is NOT a knock on your statement, just that it brings up issues of mind crimes and legal vs moral issues WTR jurusdiction, culture and historical differences.

With respect to OP, no, I don't really care much about people's own activities -key word consensual, of coourse.
And consensually, even some hurting is okay, of course...;)

33. Honestly, if someone is talking extensively about it,
I probably wouldn't enjoy their company too much either way. It's like religion; they're your personal preferences, not your public preferences. Some macho asshole talking on his phone about how "last night I drilled this bitch so hard, dude" is far more annoying than two homosexual adults having consensual sex in private.
