Sen. Stevens downplays FBI investigation

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Sen. Ted Stevens talked for the first time today about his standing with Alaskans in the wake of an FBI investigation that has included a search of his home in Girdwood.

The senator was in a mostly upbeat mood as he prepares for the end of the congressional break and his return to Washington, D.C.

Stevens has been adamant that he will not directly discuss the FBI investigation, although it did come up once in an interview with Channel 2 News today. He also said he believes he is in good shape to run for re-election next year.
