Christian group says it was treated unfairly

Hotel cancels banquet for fear of protests, guests' safety

August 30, 2007
By Tim Waldorf Staff writer
The Naperville Holiday Inn Select has turned down Americans for Truth's business.

Now the ultra-conservative, Naperville-based national organization dedicated to "confronting the homosexual activist agenda" is accusing the hotel company of illegal anti-Christian, anti-conservative discrimination.

Peter LaBarbera, executive director of Americans for Truth, said his organization had placed a $750 deposit with Holiday Inn Select to reserve a banquet room for its annual fundraiser, to be held Oct. 6; however, the group had yet to sign a contract.

Both parties already were working to pick a menu for the event, LaBarbera said, until he was "naive enough" to acknowledge that the event might draw protests by "homosexual activists."

1. If he told them that their little function would possibly draw protesters why
would they feel that ANY establishment, Holiday Inn or otherwise, would really want to have them as a customer? I don't follow the logic.

3. I think these people need a hobby.

They want to contract with the Holiday Inn in Naperville for an organized event which sanctions polarization based on bigotry and then meet resistance in view of the fear of "homosexual activists" protesting that bigotry.

If these poopheads were really enjoined by the lessons of Jesus' ministry, they'd be assisting worthy charities to help people who need help instead of showboating their ignorance and hatred.

Nobody's after their willies. They need a hobby and they need to grow up.

15. Nance, from someone like you who says everything well each time,
I take that as true praise, and say thanks in the bargain.

I hope all's well your way as we round the Labor Day turn and head into the campaign season.

It's gonna be a wild one!:hi:

5. How can it be anti-Christian...
When the action of being cruel to their brothers and sisters is anti-Christian... that would make it anti-anti-Christian. Hmmm... two negatives... that means the officials did the right thing!

Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 07:52 PM by lynnertic
And to watch for the label to appear more and more frequently as Republican politicians decide that it's no longer popular to attack homosexuals per se, but the homosexual _activists_ still make good targets, sed Rachel on her radio show last Tuesday.

I think she has a point.

10. Bummer
They couldn't find a ultra-conservative, gay-hating church to host their event? Maybe even the churches don't want em.

11. Wonder if anyone who works at the Naperville Holiday Inn might happen to
be gay?

These could be the cooks, the folks who clean the rooms, the desk clerks -- and so forth.

This anti-gay group better be big tippers if they ever do get through the door of that hotel.

12. Hotel is private property...
So they can choose to host or not too, be it an individual or a gaggle of neo-con hatemongers.

But, really, most self-respecting gay folks I know have better shit to do than hang around Naperville.
