Reid Opens Door to Pact With Antiwar Republicans
Saying the coming weeks will be "one of the last opportunities" to alter the course of the war, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid said he is now willing to compromise with Republicans to find ways to limit troop deployments in Iraq.

Reid acknowledged that his previous firm demand for a spring withdrawal deadline had become an obstacle for a small but growing number of Republicans who have said they want to end the war but have been unwilling to set a timeline.

"I don't think we have to think that our way is the only way," Reid said of specific dates during an interview in his office here. "I'm not saying, 'Republicans, do what we want to do.' Just give me something that you think you would like to do, that accomplishes some or all of what I want to do."

Reid's unwavering stance this summer earned him critics who said he was playing politics by refusing to bargain with antiwar Republicans. In the interview, he said that his goal remains an immediate return of U.S. troops but that now is the time to work with the GOP. He cited bringing up legislation after Labor Day that would require troops to have more home leave, forcing military leaders to reduce troop levels, a measure that has drawn some Republican support.

1. So they're going to resurrect Webb-Hagel and the Lamar! bill --
sounds like DEMS are actually doing most of the compromising.

That's all your good for these days, isn't it? Roll over for the lyin' GOP, again, why don't you.

His ass needs to be voted out if he can't do better than this. We could have this with the GOP still in charge. What the hell, the GOP IS STILL IN CHARGE!

5. Can I really believe that Reid is this naive, or is he simply working for Repugs along w/Liebermann?
And, there's that filthy word "compromise" again --
Where have the Repugs been compromising with Reid -- ????

QUOTE Reid:
It's been hard to keep all the Democrats together, but we've done that."

WHAAAAT . . . . ?

QUOTE Reid:
But looking forward, Reid said he will encourage new coalitions to develop, with a more bipartisan hue. "There is no reason that this be Democrat versus Republican," he said. But his GOP colleagues, he added, must be willing to stand up to Bush, as few have so far. "All these people saying September is here, September is the time -- they're going to have belly up to the bar and decide how to vote," Reid said.UNQUOTE

This would be meaningless nonsense except that it warns again of Reid's weakness on facing down Repugs and the unlikeness of his getting the message . . .

"STOP FUNDING THE WAR IN IRAQ -- !!!

He and Pelosi are the "la, la, la, I can't hear you..." twins.

One way or another Reid and Pelosi are not the people we need to get what we need accomplished.
Now what?

If we look at Reid's willingness to show more patience, be less partisan and bend over backwards for the Repugs . . . if we tolerate this, aren't we simply behaving in the same way as Reid?
