8. it's a county judge
there will be a stay, and it will be appealed to the State Supreme Court. The interesting question is what happens then? does Iowa have sexual discrimination protections enshrined in the state constitution? without those protections, I wager the state supreme court will overturn the lower court judge and say the legislature can define marriage however it wants to.

luckily, it appears that Iowa has similar consitutional amendment procedures to Mass. It takes two legislative sessions AND a ballot measure to pass a constitutional amendment. here's the best possible solution. The Supreme Court refuses to hear the case, and refers it to the District court. The district court eventually rules to uphold the judge. it is then referred to the Supreme Court, which uphold the decision. By this time, the legislative session has ended. By the time the legislature can pass an amendment in two sessions and get it on the ballot, it is 2010.

4. Chip, chip, chip away at the RW bigotry.
Of course there will be attempts to spackle this judge's decision, but it is remarkable that it happened in Iowa.

Equal is equal or it's not.

their time on things that really matter...like fighting DOMA and electing judges who will overturn it. How's Indiana doing where that's concerned?

24. What does that have to do with the question you asked?
Edited on Sat Sep-01-07 08:21 AM by LiberalFighter
From your previous response it appears that you don't want to do the research yourself or you are just as incompetent as Hoosiers if not worse. You should know that Indiana is generally a useless red state that is still stuck in the mid 20th century in many parts of the state.

Now if you can't do the research yourself then you should move here to Indiana so you will fit in with most of the population. Thank goodness I will be moving out of this state in 2009.

By the way, I am working on a campaign now to get a Democratic Mayor elected and hopefully oust our current Governor out of office in 2008 at the minimum.

PS: I applaud your interest in pets and animal rescue. I am also involved in a rescue as a foster. Currently, 2 poodles and a chihuahua with one of the poodles going to her new home today.

7. IOWA!!!
Has it changed that much since I travel through it in the 70s and no one would serve a couple of hippies wanting breakfast at a Denny's? Before we know it their sister state in conservatism, Idaho. will follow suit! Idaho was another state in the 70s in which a Hippie traveling through had a hard time getting breakfast.

17. Huh?
There is no comparison between Iowa's political culture and that of Idaho. What is with the slamming of a progressive state like Iowa? Seems that some have an inferiority complex.

21. I'm not slamming Iowa, I just had a bad experience there . . .
and haven't been back. It seemed excessively conservative at the time. I'm glad they've changed.

18. Assume much?
New Mexico was one of only two states to support Al Gore in 2000 and George Bush in 2004 (the other state was Iowa). In 2004, George W. Bush narrowly won the state's electoral votes by a margin of 0.8 percentage points. In 2004 Bush won Iowa's electoral votes by a margin of 0.67 percentage points.

Notice any similarities?
