After listening to Sen, Craig's taped back & forth, "I have a wide stance." "I wasn't tapping my...
toe. I was tapping my foot." "Now wait a minute. To use my left hand..." "I'm an important person. You shouldn't have entrapped me you naughty man nasty naughty boy yada-yada."

It's easier to see/hear just how republicans have run this country over a cliff in one long, arduous, semantically challenged, mind numbingly two faced four wheel skid

To quote the arresting officer.

3. The poster child. The metaphor. (Now watch this)
Don't ask why. I'm just posting here. Sort of stream of consciousness. Not to mention this is one of the best bands ever. Even if it's not your thing. Yeah, it's out of context. Or is it.

Well look out

Well I’m sick
I’m so sick
Of a lot of people
Tryin’ to tell me
What I can and can’t do
With my life

And I’m tired
I’m so tired
Of a lot of people
In a lot of high places
Don’t want you and me
To enjoy ourselves

Well I’m through with people
Who can’t get off their arse
To help themselves change this government
And better this society
‘Cos it’s shit

But hold on a second
I smell burning
And I see a change
Comin’ ‘round the bend
And I suggest to you
That it takes
Just five seconds
Just five seconds
Of decision
To realise
That the time
Is right
To start thinkin’ about
A little…
Revolution!

5. What I heard actually was not that
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 12:06 AM by nadinbrzezinski
Ok, perhaps since I have heard some of these ahem excuses as an EMS worker

What I heard was an upstanding member of the community (whether we like it or not this IS a US Senator), who had an ooops moment and got caught... as in seriously caught

What I heard was fear

What I heard was idiocy (for a US Senator he SHOULD have known that he should have demanded a lawyer be present from word go, even before the Miranda was issued)

What I head was a scared little bad boy who got caught and feared for his family (yep, I can identify the fear, seen it before), and who tried to use his influence

This is not unique to him. Men and women in positions of power do this all the time. Whether the power is political, police, or because they belong to important groups does not matter

Hell, I have heard this... you know who I am and what do you think about that so many times from influential people that it is not even funny, and even from not so influential people who think they can get away with it because they are citizens of this country. (Ah the joys of working in a border state on the other side of the border)

Don't be that judgmental. I am sure that if a Dem got caught in something like this... and they thought they could get away with it, you'd hear something to the effect.

Perhaps after ten years I am just too jaded to think this is exclusive to one party

Oh and I will repeat this, since it is worth repeating... POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY

And that is what you heard...

By the way, you also heard the hypocrisy of the rules don't apply to me really

7. reasonable, part of what i heard as well was my X going before the bar...
with astonishing feats of verbal gymnastics, while slipping out from under any & all responsibility for some rather curious, destructive behavior but there's little doubt here either: "POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY"

8. That Is The One Motto I Have Always Found To Be True
That, and "Whatever can go wrong will". Perhaps * should have considered that before he invaded Iraq.

19. yep, "Whatever can go wrong will" = Murphy's Law; bush has never had to live...
with the prospect of Murphy's Law (as do many) always being bailed out, or his actions explained away or accounted for by his parents even when they are painfully wrong,

it is that sense of old money entitlement that believes it's thoughts are pure & virginal, beyond reproach

11. Nope, as I wrote
what I heard was a bad boy who got caught trying to pull the influence pedling game and every damn excuse in the book...

Hell, I've heard them in the back of an ambulance as I start IVs on our local drunk who was ahem, driving... and happened to know somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody.

18. That was what got to me...
All of these reported signals for gay liaisons in public bathrooms... And not one utterance from Craig of a denial of knowledge about those signals. Only denial and defensiveness as insistence of accidental contact or that the police officer was "seeing things"...

13. Not only that, he wasn't outraged about being accused of being gay.
He was more concerned with catching his connecting flight.

21. Yes
On the tape just before he's Mirandized, they're taking turns going over the sequence of events, and Craig says, "You solicited me."

If that happened, and non-gay Craig knew what it was, where was his avoidance or objection to it? Didn't hear that on the tape.

He only wanted to show the officer he was an important man and make the arrest go away.

15. I think you've captured it.It was so embarrassing & pathetic to listen to the denials...
...very much like a child or adolescent caught out in something that's going to cause a major hassle with the principal or the parental units.

Olbermann's replay of Craig's "naughty nasty boy" video regarding Bill Clinton had me laughing out loud at the comedy of hypocrisy exposed. But I couldn't listen to much of the police tape that KO was broadcasting tonight -- I was that embarrassed for the guy.

And just imagine: Vitter seems to be getting a pass from the party of Glorious Old Perverts (probably) because his state has a Democratic governor, while Craig is being tossed under the bus (probably) because his state's Republican governor can be relied on to appoint a Republican replacement who will gain name recognition a year before the next election.

6. He Showed His Knowledge Of These Actions By Denying
them. I would have said, "So I was constipated and thought tapping my foot might help but it didn't so I tried bending over and grabbing the stall and twisting around. Any problem with that, Officer? Oh, I bumped you. Hey, chit happens." A much better defense don't you think. Perhaps I should have been a lawyer.
