"Iraq Attacked WTC"
Yes, it's true. I heard it from one of my neighbors yesterday. We were discussing Richard Jewell and how he got screwed over after being accused of the Olympic Park bombing. I explained to my neighbor that it was actually a Christian terrorist (Eric Rudolph) who planted the bomb. She replied that there was no such thing as a "Christian terrorist", further explaining that "Christians don't blow up people". So, I asked her what religion Bush was. At first she claimed she didn't know but then admitted he was Christian. So then I asked her if he was bombing people in Iraq. She said he wasn't "personally" bombing anyone. I replied "Of course not, he's too chickenshit to actually do it himself, but he is ordering the bombings". She agreed that he was doing the ordering but then said "Well, what are we supposed to do? "They" attacked us"? I asked her who and she once again said "they". I asked her who "they" were and she said "You know, all those crazies over there in Iraq. They are bombing themselves too." I tried to explain to her how Iraq had nothing to do with the WTC but she got this blank look on her face and said "I don't pay attention to politics". I then explained how, even though she doesn't "pay attention to politics", her ignorance and subsequent failure to protest Bush's actions may one day cost her the life of her teenage son because, in just a couple years, he will be of age and eligible for the coming draft or he might just enlist on his own. She said he would never join and was apparently completely unaware of how inherently selfish her statement was...that other kids were gonna die for this insanity but that was ok because her child wouldn't be a part of it.

This is the ignorance of the facts and blind loyalty to an idiot leader that we are fighting. It's amazing that people like this can live into their 30's without walking into traffic.

1. Eric Rudolph's name was suspiciously absent from every Jewell story I heard
Funny how that happens

10. That could be because Jewell was cleared by the time Rudolph
became a suspect after the clinic bombing two years later. And Americans have real short memories.

But you're right - while Jewell was mentioned in any number of Rudolph stories, Rudolph was almost never mentioned in any Jewell stories, even years after the facts were known.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organizers_of_the_September_11%2C_2001_attacks :

Suspected hijackers

Minutes after the occurrence of the September 11, Terrorist attacks, the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened the largest FBI investigation in United States history, operation PENTTBOM. The suspects were identified within 72 hours because few made any attempt to disguise their names on flight and credit card records and they were among the few non-U.S. citizens and nearly the only passengers with Arabic names on their flights, enabling the FBI to identify their names and in many cases such details as dates of birth, known, and/or possible residences, visa status, and specific identification of the suspected pilots within hours.<9> On September 27, 2001 the FBI released photos of the 19 hijackers, along with information about many of their possible nationalities and aliases <10>. All the suspected hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon or Egypt.

United Airlines Flight 175: Marwan al-Shehhi (from the United Arab Emirates), Fayez Banihammad (from the United Arab Emirates), Mohand al-Shehri (Saudi Arabian), Hamza al-Ghamdi (Saudi Arabian), Ahmed al-Ghamdi (Saudi Arabian). They were the only people with Arabic names on the flight.

American Airlines Flight 11: Mohamed Atta al Sayed (Egyptian), Waleed al-Shehri (Saudi Arabian), Wail al-Shehri (Saudi Arabian), Abdulaziz al-Omari (Saudi Arabian), Satam al-Suqami (Saudi Arabian). There was only one other passenger with an Arabic name who was ruled out as having any role.

United Airlines Flight 93: Ziad Jarrah (Lebanese), Ahmed al-Haznawi (Saudi Arabian), Ahmed al-Nami (Saudi Arabian), Saeed al-Ghamdi (Saudi Arabian). They were the only people with Arabic names on the flight.

American Airlines Flight 77: Hani Hanjour (Saudi Arabian), Khalid al-Mihdhar (Saudi Arabian), Majed Moqed (Saudi Arabian), Nawaf al-Hazmi (Saudi Arabian), Salem al-Hazmi (Saudi Arabian). There was one other passenger with an Arabic name who was ruled out as having any role.

8. "From what I've heard..."? What about from what you've read, since 9/11/01? EVERY news article
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 08:29 AM by WinkyDink
mentioned the Saudi Arabian connection, along with the other nationalities. There was nothing hidden in 2001 about this.

5. It's amazing, isn't it?
The things I hear from these people is just astounding. Mainly on C-Span and the cable outlets. They are getting their facts right out rush limpball's butt hole and spewing their "talking points" from their pie holes all over this country. If the ones that call into Washington Journal - C-Span's morning call-in show - are at all 'typical' of the republicon party, it's just plain scary.

7. How God Really Works...
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 08:32 AM by JTFrog
I read this article yesterday after having similar experiences. It's really a good read. Summed it up nicely for me anyway.

http://realevang.wordpress.com/2007/08/28/how-god-really-works/

Excerpt:

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, “God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I’ll give you exactly 15 minutes.” The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, “Here I am God. I’m still waiting.” It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform.

The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, “What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?”

The Marine calmly replied, “God was too busy today protecting America ’s soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an a$$. So, He sent me.”

9. she doesn't "pay attention to politics"
All these brain-dead conservatives say the same things:

"I didn't read the paper that day."

"They're both bad- Democrats and Republicans."

Or they will appear to acquiesce, as the one I work with did when she found out I was a Poli-Sci grad student, but stubbornly refuse to allow any dissenting opinion to hit their ears.

"You're working on a Masters degree. You know more about this than I do. I'm not going to argue with you anymore."

Truth be told, I've learned more about politics from DU than I have in school. All that's necessary is an internet connection and the will to investigate. No advanced degree required. Conservatives, however, will discount any knowledge that exceeds remembering republic talking points.

11. I had a similar "discussion" with someone I know....
Ater trying to have a logical political discussion with her for about 30 minutes, I asked her who she was going to support in the Primaries. Her answer? "oh.....I don't vote". AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

12. I just went through this the other day....
I tried to explain to Ms "I don't pay attention to politics" that would be fine if it were really true but it's not.

Afterall, Ms "I don't pay attention to politics" is the first to forward the catchy RW e-mails to a rather hefty distribution list.

Plus, Ms "I don't pay attention to politics" seems to parrot the RW talking points very well.

I told her that if a group of people were so successfully using me to further an agenda maybe it would be a fine time to "pay attention to politics". Otherwise, I have to believe that she is a willing participant in the political machinery she claims to know nothing of.

....yes, whatever, now let me tell you about that table I picked up at a garage sale
