Why would Craig even think about resigning ? |
|
To save himself from embarrassment ?
Hell, he has already been embarrassed ! The only people who can be saved from embarrassment are those who are attacking him and trying to destroy his life and reputation. Why would he want to help them ?
Stay put Larry ! Fight back !

1. Um, why are you defending him? He not only pled guilty, but he HID his |
|
arrest and conviction from his constituents for months--he can't do that.

> Um, why are you defending him?
Probably because it's politically sensible for us. There's no doubt at all that we (Democrats) are better off with Larry Craig *IN* the Senate than with him gone from it and replaced by another Republican Senator.

he should go just for that, politics aside.

*OF COURSE* he should go, but I'm not above taking any advatage offered, so if he wants to stay, I say "More power to him!".
And in 2008, we'll run his mug shots on political adverts daily.

27. The enemy of my enemy is my friend .. |
|
And today, the biggest enemy the GOP has is Sen Craig. It may be short lived, but as long as he is in that position, he is my friend. If we want to overwhelmingly change regimes next year, we need to support a lot of friends that we otherwise may not care to associate with.

The man's got a lot of mess to clean up, and no quarter from his constituents or his colleagues. Sometimes discretion IS the better part of basic survival, not just valor. He's not in a position to further gay causes right now, if ever. Even if he wanted to, which he manifestly doesn't.

28. There's a certain perverse logic to that |
|
I'll grant you.
But that's also the same logic that says don't try to impeach the president because we want to dangle him out there as long as possible. It's better if he's in the public eye continually fucking up as much as possible. Let's hope we look good by comparison.
Personally, I'm not a fan of gathering votes this way. The responsible thing to do is for the Senate to discipline him as it sees fit and if he should be replaced, then he's replaced. I still think we'd be in the catbird seat next November.

Yesterday you were attacking the Jena 6... expressing disappointment that an American plane didn't get shot down over Iraq... and now you're defending a sexual predator.
You're a very interesting character.

It's been nonstop "Craig the hypocrite in the bathroom" since his arrest was discovered, so it may very well sink the GOP if he stubbornly stays on.

15. Because he's a hypocrite who has always voted against gay rights and has been exposed himself. |
|
Also, he knew the Idaho Statesman newspaper was investigating OTHER allegations of his illegal public sex escapades with other men.
Why are you defending a RW criminal? Do you think any RW wacko would be supporting a Democrat should he/she be caught in the same situation? NO...never in a million years would that happen. STOP DEFENDING REPUKES.

I the OP is hoping he'll hang around because he'd be an easy target in his next election cycle. As another poster noted, it's about the only way we'd ever pick up a seat in Idaho.

18. Vitter's Democratic governor would fill his vacancy w/ a Dem?Craig's Repub gov would find a Repub? |
|
That might be a BIG reason why the GOP is throwing Craig under the bus but sweeping Vitter under the rug.
A Republican replacement would have a year to gain name recognition in the home state, thus virtually ensuring election later.
