I have this GOP Neighbor problem...
There are the Americans, i.e. my neighbors, who drink the koolaid get their "news" from Fox. I know... it's insane but they do. They also do not have the internet in their house even though it's obviously available - They don't like computers --- they are so confusing... BUT they have digital cable with a gazillion channels and a DVR - They do not feel the need to read a newspaper nor the internet - I guarantee you that they know zero about Haditha unless Bill O'Reilley blathered on about it -

Now - get this - They are college graduates who are so afraid of anything Arab that it's laughable - These are educated people who do not give a rats ass about staying informed and they think I am the insane person since I am PISSED OFF at what is going on in this country....

They told me that
(a) votes were not stolen,
(b) nothing bad happened to anyone during Katrina,
(c) Iraqi's attacked us on 9/11 and
(d) Bush would never lie.

So, you know what I did?

I made them both a margarita and said "Glad your America is doing well 'cause mine sucks."

11. Even Fox noise said there were many deaths.
For that matter one of the guys on Fox noise was nearly crying as he talked about the people in NO at the superdome and convention center.

Sounds like those folks are real losers! Don't talk politics with them, as you'll just end up spraining your brain.

33. I had to
LOL at this post ---

Don't make eye contact!

Sort of like the same advice as you may get when dealing with a junkyard dog.

I talk to them almost every day...

I am out in front of my house with my kids while they ride their bikes with the other kids - I sit out in front with my iPod playing and if it's later in the day, a glass of vino. They are my neighbors and they come over to sit and chat -

We just never talk politics..

It's my son who asks them...

"Why did you vote for Bush? You know, he is a liar right?"

36. They wouldn't take my word for it
But I do have a picture of the dead man tied to a fence with his shoelace two blocks from my house, floating in the water. The National Guard said that the dead were too hard to remove with all the water, so they tied them to the nearest thing available, and noted their spot on a chart for later retrieval.

Personally, I think the "official" numbers are much lower than the reality.

40. What's really disturbing
Is that the Guard had a system and a chart well established for the tracking of such bodies. The guy made it sound like finding them was pretty common thing.

We have a friend who was stationed in the poorer areas of the city, and he thinks the dead is probably closer to 4 - 5 thousand.

Anyone so willfully ignorant that he won't have Teh Intertoobz in the house is clearly incompetent.

The ignorance is manifested in his Islamophobia. Let me guess, he thinks that Europe is about to be over-run by Moooozelem hordes, yes?

44. Sorry...
He plays in a "rock" band... I don't thin he knows what real rock is ---

I was playing some Zappa on the stereo one day and he had no clue... When I told him I knew Zappa, he thought I was talking about knowing a form of Kung-Fu...

Hey... He owns all the equipment - he plays guitar and keyboard -

I have to say - He is nice to my kids who bug the holy shit out of him in his garage. In fact they are both really nice to the kids - That's why I can't "HatE" them - They are kind to the kids.

I said it is a problem...

If they were total assholes, I could just hate them and ignore ---

I can not talk politics with them --- It makes my head blow apart.

27. On the internet (or lack thereof) subject
My own mother (in her late 60's) is a total technophobe. She won't even use an ATM, never mind a PC. But I love her nonetheless.

There are still lots people like that out there. So I wouldn't hold that against them. The political kool-aid-drinking is another matter, though.

It's weird - They are really well equipped in every other way to be informed - it's like they elect not to know.

They have to use computers for their work.

I know they have at least one laptop - I've seen it.

I also know they do not have it hooked up to the internet.

It is just too weird.

12. My take on this
find what you both believe in. Keep the channels of communication open. Just like with republican family members, they are allowed their beliefs just as you have yours. You both have the same basic human needs, community among them.
Do they ever shut up about it?
Do they try to change your mind constantly?

I'd like them better if they hadn't had the political lobotomy.

14. the ONLY thing you can do with people like that is be a good neighbor
you don't have to go out of your way but set a good example for US, the Dems.

Then, if it every comes up, ask them if they think you are as evil as fox says you are. When they say "or we're not talking about you" say "every dem I know is exactly like me, kind, love their families, hardworking" and leave it at that.

I have a friend who rants about my religion (I'm an atheist) and I got into it with him a couple of times. Finally I decided all I can do is show him he's wrong about atheists not caring about family or anyone else. (What I REALLY want to say is: "If beileving in God is necessary to raise good kids, why is it my kids outperform your deadbead slugs every day of the week?" But I don't.)
