Form a special "plumbers" cell, with Rove as its leader? What heavy smear artillery will the Republicans bring in to force Craig out?

It's not often that the GOP smears one of its own, but we just might see it this time. Anything to get Craig out of their picture.

15. How can he be expelled?
A majority of senators would have to vote to expel him. There are only 49 repubs, unless you count Lieberman. I don't think Reid would even let it happen.

2. What is there to smear?
The guy is a hypocrite and a weasel. They don't need to smear him to get rid of him. He's doing a nice job of that by himself.

8. Oh, believe me, I don't want to see Craig go.

At least, not until January, 2008. I like him right where he is: in the Senate up until Jan. 2008, and giving Republicans fits by his very presence.

9. If he just came out and said the truth....
apologized for his lies and hypocrisy... how would progressives feel? Just curious....

He's done so much harm through his positions(unlike Frank), that I'm not sure I could defend his staying...

10. The governor of Idaho is a Republican
If Craig resigns, he'll be replaced by someone just as bad.

14. Oh, yes... from a political stance, he should stay and do as much
damage to Repug credibility as possible. No doubt...

20. His replacement would be last in seniority
so not as valuable to the people of Idaho. The other 99 would all be slightly higher.

18. It would be refreshing
and I think we'd ask if he was going to change his legislative positions on gay issues. Then someone would ask that we all email thanks.

11. I want Craig to keep fighting
He's got a big enough ego that he doesn't understand why he's being forced out while Vitter was embraced.

He may now see how hypocritical he has been.
