Do We Have The Courage To Stop War With Iran?

It Is Up To US

Air strikes on Iran seem inevitable, unless grassroots America can arrange a backbone transplant for Congress. The House needs to begin impeachment proceedings without delay. Why? Well, there’s the Constitution of the United States, for one thing. For another, the initiation of impeachment proceedings might well give our senior military leaders pause. Do they really want to precipitate a wider war and risk destroying much of what is left of our armed forces for the likes of Bush and Cheney? Is another star on the shoulder worth THAT?

The deterioration of the U.S. position in Iraq; the perceived need for a scapegoat; the knee-jerk deference given to Israel’s myopic and ultimately self-defeating security policy; and the fact that time is running out for the Bush/Cheney administration to end Iran’s nuclear program—together make for a very volatile mix.

So, on Tuesday let’s put away the lawn chairs and roll up our sleeves. Let’s remember all that has already happened since Labor Day five years ago.

2. to hell with congress. Let's march on Washington and take bush/cheney out of the white house
by ourselves. and maybe take everyone out of the house/senate who has not already committed to ending the war (so maybe leave 70 in office, the rest get the fuck out) .

Pelosi, if this were a sane country, you'd soon be out of a job.

5. In order for this to happen, there needs to be a person with leadership
abilities that has name recognition step forward and lead a charge such as this. Someone that comes to mind would be someone like Colin Powell who also has a substantial amount of influence amongst the Military leaders. If this were to happen, I think that it could be accomplished in a short period of time.

6. Colin Powell needs to go to the Hague with the first batch.... we need people power,
not personality.
It happened in Czechoslovakia.

7. That may be, but I was using him as an example of what is needed only.
I wasn't suggesting that it be Colin Powell, just someone with the type of leadership, following, and general credentials... "The People" aren't going to do it, period... Most Americans aren't even aware there is a problem...

14. Why the violent outburst?
Why do you express support for such violence and mayhem?

15. That isn't what happened in Czechoslovakia .... there the people took to the streets.
and brought down the a regime that had no longer served the people. they did not wait for official action. They did not hang people from lamppost as you suggest.

Your way of violence or the option of merely waiting patiently for congress, at some distant date in the future decides to end the war --- while thousands die each month in Iraq are not the only choices before us.

3. How can we help?? what can we do.
i'm so stressed about us going into Iran.

I heard John Conyers say not enough folks were in his office to demand impeachment.

what if we started a GET ON A PLANE DUers campaign.

encouraged the more affluent DUers to get on a plane and converge on John's office next week as a show of support for impeachment?

I'm working my butt off in Washington state trying to get Senator Eric Oemig's office support for his Resolution to force the House to begin Impeachment proceedings. Yes a State can force the hand of congress. I met with Oemig, he mentions he WILL reintroduce the bill in January. this is great news!!!!

but what else, Kpete, what else can we do?????

4. a very wise woman once described quiltmaking to me
she said - if EVERYONE possible tries to make their square as beautiful and meaningful as possible-
we could create a beautiful quilt.

Everyone - get busy with your square - soon we will sew them together.

DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN -

I am working hard in my own way -

I will show you very soon what I have done personally to make a difference, kp
