Poll question: I believe all elected officials should submit to drug testing. |
|
If the government demands our compliance in drug testing should we not also ask that they submit as well? After all, they DO work for us.

1. Call me ignorant. How do they demand our compliance in drug testing? |
|
I've never been drug tested, which is somewhat infuriating, because I've never done drugs, and would kind of like to take a test I might actually pass, for a change.

There are plenty of labs, you send them a blood sample, they tell you if you're on drugs. Ask your primary care physician, or use the google. HTH!

3. So, they tell people if they are on drugs |
|
In case they don't know whether they are on drugs?
I know I'm not on drugs, I just like taking tests.
Either way, I'm trying to understand what the OP is referring to.

15. Have you ever held a job? |
|
The average job requires a drug test. Even the McDonald's drive through clerk has to pee in a cup to get a job. Drug testing does NOT prove you are high at the time, only that you have used drugs in the past. If our elected officials think this is acceptable they ought to also comply and accept the invasion of privacy.

12. But the clerk at blockbuster has to take a hair test? |
|
Oh, the clerk "might" forget to take the security device of your DVD as a result of his smoking a joint two weeks ago. The lawmaker is only deciding where to spend our tax dollars. (and what laws YOU must comply with)

|
For all my jobs I have had, I had to piss in a cup. Why should they be treated any differently then anyone else??

Extending an irrational procedure to cover more irrelevant situations is just plain stupid.

8. Maybe they should be as inconvenienced as I am? |
|
They don't have to do it so maybe they don't get the insanity of it all. Did you know Blockbuster requires a hair drug test? You will get tested if you want to be a bag boy at a grocery store. If you want to make laws don't worry about it? Are they above that? Maybe they would take a look at the irrational drug war if forced to comply with what most of their constituents have to?

7. Drug testing is a FUCKING JOKE! |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-31-07 10:32 PM by Bennyboy
For one it is totally uncostitutional. For another certain drugs stay in your system longer than others (pot especially). Another is that some are never tested (that is why so many soldiers take LSD).
And ask yourself this, would you rather have someone stoned on pot or someone that is drunk? They don't test for alcohol. They don't test for script drugs, some of which are far worse than any illegal drugs. (hillbilly heroin anyone?)
Once my wife came home and had a problem with someone in her high level State of CA job falling asleep at meetings. my wife asked her waht the problem was and she told her "I took two morphine patches this morning" and that was why she could not keep awake..MORPHINE. PURE OPIATES.

16. I agree its a joke..... |

If you don't have to be tested then you really can't understand how stupid it is. When I am off the clock I ought to be able to do what I please. I can understand intoxication on the job but not being busted for a joint three weeks ago.

10. Who will the drug testing industry lobby to get to get this enacted? |
|
I'm sure they're for it; they want to test everybody. But I don't see representatives voting to test themselves.

11. I am against ALL drug testing as a requirement of employment. |
|
If Barry Bonds gets a thrill out of needles in his ass, a shrinking doodle, and a miserable death at a young age, and being seen as illegitimate in his profession then so be it.
Now, if a Firemen is acting all weirdass and the other people putting their lives in his hands think he's on ice then test him. Or if some woman working the slicer at the Arby's cuts a chunk of finger off then test her as a requirement to qualify for worker's comp ........ testing only for cause.

17. My State does by discounting workers comp insurance. |
|
Employers who conduct random testing receive a 5% discount on their state workers compensation insurance premium. HELLO? Our elected officials make laws that determine what drugs are illegal. Our government has a DEA that is charged with enforcing the drug laws. We have a freaking "drug czar".
True, they do not DEMAND our compliance but they sure make it difficult to earn a living and stay out of jail unless you use drugs from the approved list. Alcohol, pharmaceuticals and cigarettes. Of course these industries donate cash to the politicians campaigns so its all good. The minute you stray off the reservation and smoke a natural thing like marijuana you are a criminal. Go figure.
