the decision to kill themselves off and the planet with them, I disagree. Seems like plenty of people here are ready to take everything out for "God". A fucking illusion probably. After watching Anderson Cooper tonight I have zero faith in people's ability to think, because the soldiers pray to justify killing. whatever, I'm not even christian but that is so messed up.

I think you're agreeing with Mead's quote. She says there is no evidence of enough basic freaking common sense not to self-destruct as a species, not to mention society.
Jared Diamond covered that one too.
