And father of an almost-3 year old boy who pays me in love benefits every day. I never get a "day off".

7. Same here
Deadline Oct 1 for a grant I have to submit. I don't even remember the last week-end I took off completely anyway. Of course often times it is by choice-I have been a lab-rat for too long :-|...

5. I think I'm an "other"
I'm self-employed, and I "would" be working on Labor Day probably, but I think I'm going to be finished with my current task, and my guess is I won't get another one until after the holiday, although I could be wrong. If I get another project, I will be working.

Independent Contractors Don't Get Paid Holidays
or any holidays. Or unemployment. Or anything.

On the other hand, I can take care of a severely disabled child and keep food on the table. And I get lots of exercise in the free air.

10. I'm just a plain old contractor
I don't have to work monday, but I don't get holiday pay. There is a ton of work to be done, and I asked if I could work 40 hours in the 4 days tu-fri and they said no. So I get a day off and a smaller paycheck.

I get paid holidays, but I do shift work. Monday is a regular day off for me, so I'll take my holiday on Tuesday.

15. I would have, but I was laid off
two weeks ago along with half of the company, including most of the executives. I've got two interviews scheduled for next week; I'll probably get at least one offer.

19. I voted for Hubby since I'm a SAHM.
Stay-at-home mom, that is. He's on-call for the practice this weekend, so while he doesn't have clinic hours, he has to round at both hospitals and take all calls. It's his turn for Labor Day.

21. No, but I'm not salaried.
If I work on Labor Day, I'll get paid. If don't work on Labor Day, I won't get paid. Same as every other day of the year.

Fortunately, I can choose whether or not to work.

My husband does receive a paid holiday on Monday.

25. I checked "no" but it's misleading
I'm back on station in Europe, and Labor Day in May 1 here (when I have to
work, too, since May 1 is not a holiday in America).

But don't cry for me, Argentina. I'm station chief here. I get as much vacation
as I want to take, as long as I can convince the boys Stateside that I'm being
useful, and I've been able to fool them into thinking that for decades, now......

26. Better: a double-paid day!
We get holiday pay six days per year--New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Unfortunately, the store is closed on two of those days--Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So, we get two paid days off per year and four days where we get double pay. (If you're scheduled off for a double-paid day, you still get the holiday pay*--and, of course, you get paid for the five days you worked.)

* People who are off on double-paid days only receive the holiday bonus pay if they work the scheduled shift before the holiday, and the scheduled shift after it. Say you luck out with the schedule--this probably won't happen, but say it did--and are scheduled off Saturday through Tuesday. Because of our single-week scheduling system, which does NOT take into account the weeks surrounding this one (which means it's possible to get scheduled Monday-Tuesday this week and Saturday-Sunday next week, with ten days of work in between), this can happen. To get your holiday pay, you must work Friday and Wednesday.
