Report from the hustings...Keene NH
My mother would have called a day like today a "vanilla ice cream day". Clear, crisp, breezy, beautiful day. We did the usual lit table in Railroad Square and there were tons of people because Keene was having a music festival. People were lining up to sign our "Out of Iraq" petition but there were also a good number of people who told us that Congress just wasn't listening and no petition was going to change that. These folks seemed angry and disgusted. Some folks told me they were going to send a message with their vote in 2008. Not good news for Dems who can't seem to locate their spines. Also, people are blown away when we tell them that we are spending 10 Billion a month on this war...they are truly shocked...guess they are not reading the papers.

One of the fliers we give people is a chart showing how the candidates, both Democrat and Republican, have voted on the war/war budget votes. People really are grateful to get that information. My group has not endorsed any one candidate and we may end up not doing that. We may simply indicate which candidate(s) have the most acceptable position on the war and let folks choose.

I woke up to this beautiful day this morning and groaned thinking I was going to spend it at the lit table rather than in my garden with the dogs but I always think differently after I've tabled because it gives me hope that democracy still may have a chance in this country. I guess it's like getting my weekly shot of hope and energy to keep going.

1. NH is a "no bullshit zone."
Despite their conservative reputation, even THEY cannot deny the rapt and utter hypocrisy of today's republican party.

Keep fighting the good fight up there, Raven!

3. Your mother sounds very poetic. I love the term...

I'm familiar with Keene, since I went to Northfield, close to the border. And thanks so much for getting the word out. I have no doubt that people truly don't know much, including the egregious expense of the Iraq war, except that things aren't going all that well over there. My mother watches FAUX Noise and I can't seem to persuade her of much of anything. *sigh*

My friend, who is in NH State government, is working for John Edwards. I could support him, though Dennis will always be my top candidate. You all are doing very important work, so thank you for getting the word out. I'm hoping against hope that we prevail in the next election, and you are helping to make this happen, so thank you for that, as well. My best to the dogs and good luck with the garden. :-)

Rhiannon:hi:

on edit: typo:blush:
