Why is the media spending so much time on her? Didn't we fight a war so we wouldn't be bother by the monarch anymore?

2. For all the Diana-haters who are going to be posting in this thread: |
|
Please tell me specifically what action she did that made you hate her. Hating her simply for being who she was is discrimination. I want to know exactly what she did, where and when, that makes you hate her.

She's just another blond pretty girl. 1000s of tragedies occur everyday. But those are people who are not blond.

|
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1703003&mesg_id=1703003There are plenty of Diana-haters on DU. Not that I was an adoring fan of her, but I did like the fact that she took her fame and celebrity and used it to promote good causes.

4. I don't hate Diana. I just don't care about any discussion of her. |
|
She was a famous woman who died in a car crash about 10 years ago. What's there to discuss, and what's the fascination with her?

39. She had a great, self deprecating sense of humor. She wasn't perfect but I |
|
always felt her heart was in the right place plus she was against all the pomposity of the monarchy.
That's why I was disappointed by her son's memorial to her yesterday as it represented so much pageantry and Brit pomp that she was so much against.
I wonder if they were too young to really have understood what she was all about.

If only this country could be blessed with a first lady of her caliber...

... great amounts of state sponsored wealth and privilege based upon heredity and the divine right of kings.
Seems like anyone that actively participates and propagates this system would be difficult to classify as a liberal/progressive.

28. Oh, I *agree* that she wouldn't be considered as a Liberal/Progressive |
|
compared to some of the people I know (Catholic Worker House & American Friends Service Committee). And in comparison to whom I also do not really rank as a Liberal/Progressive. But within her context, Diana WAS more of a Liberal/Progressive than those around her.
No one's perfect; I always considered her emotional problems pretty self-absorbed, but that didn't mean that she didn't have genuine feelings for ordinary people.

|
But she herself stated, "I'm not a political animal, really." So I don't think she had much to say about the endless class war in England or anywhere else.

6. UK is our Best Buddy and Diana was a "people's" princess. |
|
The Queen, traditional royalty, hated her. There are even theories about assasination, because Diana, the mother of the future king of the UK, could become the live-in girlfriend, or even wife, of Fayd, an Arab(?), someone else the Royals hated even more than Diana and maybe she would even bear him children. Lionel was talking about this yesterday on Air America Radio.

8. I cared when she died, and felt empathy and sympathy for her sons. |
|
I watched the funeral and sang the song over and over that Elton John rewrote for her but, I do not want to see a story about Diana over and over each year as is done with a lot of people. They can talk about her but not have a day of Diana like msnbc did. What is it doing for me to re-live this over and over. I hear about her more than I have heard about a lot of historic figures in history..

she was despised by English people after her Panorama (BBC TV NEWS SHOW), the whole pathetic nonsense that has built up around her after she died is disgusting and a testimony to the grotesque hypocrisy of people who are manipulated by slick TV revisionism.

25. There are low-level rhetorical skills. |
|
Most dominant semantic characteristic = false dichotomies . . . as though the words mean absolutely ONLY what the user assumes they mean and, of course, anyone who disagrees is an idiot.
It's SOOOO transparent **really** and funny that such voices are apparently unaware of their own contradictions and how limited they appear to others. They embarass themselves and don't even know it.

12. She isn't a monarch, she's a goddess. |
|
She was goddess incarnate while she lived, and now she the real thing. That should have been perfectly obvious when every place she had ever visited became a shrine the day after her death.
I understand that the deification process is not one we profess to be comfy with, but it goes on all the time. There are minor deities and, rarely, biggies. Diana is a biggie.
And if that does not conform to your imposed religion, tough noogies. It seems to be the actual natural religious process for the human being.

|
I agree with you in other ways.
Every person's life has physical effects upon reality ( us + the world ). Some effects are such that that person's life may be classified as a "higher order of power". There are levels of these higher orders of powers, ranging from more to less universal in their effects.

but I do miss her. She brought a glow of warmth to this cranky work with style and grace but mostly, among those of the world who have the wherewithall to get things done, despite being royalty, she got off her duff and did the kinds of things we say we are for, She raised money for the poor and starving people of the world, brought needed supplies to places around the world and spread hope to people who had lost it. Why is her passing such a big deal? Because we all should be the kind of people she was.:grouphug:

Prior to her marriage, she volunteered at a mental hospital when all of her school friends were afraid to. She raised awareness of bulemia, land mines, gave her retired eveningwear to be auctioned at Christie's for AIDS foundations....

a very nice person, put in a situation that destroyed here privacy and wrecked her personal life. A tragic death, as would be for any young mother. That said, I really don't care that much more about her and what angers me is the Media obsession with her 10 years after her death. Royalty is based on the divine rights of Kings. It is as silly and as outdated as the Earth centered Universe.
