I'm outa here for a while.
First let me say that I’ve been a member of this site since before the 2006 elections. But I just recently began commenting. As someone who does a lot of writing, I’d just as soon read. And, read, I did, sometimes fot as long as five hours in one sitting. And for the most part I enjoyed the wonderful and optimistic comments made by all of you amazing contributors. I am a big fan of so many of you. One in particular is Nancy Greggs, I swear to God, I can almost recite verbatim her “Tell The Guy…” rant. -- I’ve read it that many times.

Then, we won the 2006 election, and it was jubilation. -- For about, two, months.
What happened, I don’t know, but more and more, I’m seeing, and reading, all these nasty comments being made by what I consider, anti-Democrat, fatalists.

This Dem-bashing is not the way to proceed.

The last I checked, the democrats have been in power less than nine months, yet some of our members here seem to think, they should have straightened out all of the damage done by this disgusting administration, in the past six years.
Many of these people need to get a life, or better yet, a separate forum all to themselves, where they can bitch and moan all day. -- We could call it “I Hate, Democrats” or even, more appropriate, would be, “The Defeatists!”
Well, I’m sorry, that’s not my cup of tea.

All this negativity has really brought me down.

I’m all for expressing one’s opinions, but to blame, all, of the democrats for the actions of a few, is just not right, and to continue to defame, all, of the candidates except the (supposed) one they are backing is, well, not very neighborly.
And, I’m reading this stuff, more and more everyday here.

We need to stay united; that is the only way we will topple this house of cards.

There are no limits to this administration’s vile deeds, there is no level to which, it will not stoop. Yet, I hear people saying; “I won’t vote, at all, if he or she, is the candidate!”

What, the, hell, is that all about? -- It’s INSANE!

All this negativity has really brought me down.
I mean, damn, there are days when I feel like I’m on a fricking republican site!

I am just as pissed, as anyone else at those who have aided this criminal in his wicked deeds. But I’m not about to turn my back, on those, who have stood tall.

I want to see these bastards impeached as much as anyone, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Wait until some of these hearings get back underway again next week; you’ll see, the shit is going to hit the fan!

Get rid of all this negativity and pessimism. Make your point, discus openly why you believe your candidate is the better of the pack, but in so doing, don’t, denigrate mine. We need to be concentrating on making our party stronger and greater! -- For the sake of our children, and theirs, please endeavor to do this by taking a responsible stand on who our candidates will be! -- And when they screw up, throw the bums out!
Remember 2006 was just the beginning, we’ve got to build this party back up, brick by blessed brick.
But all this negativity and pessimism isn’t the mortar that’s going to hold it together.

With all the intelligent people who post here, why can’t we all grasp this?

United we stand, divided we fall…

I’ve said it before in a few of my comments that I believe there are a few wolves running around here in sheep’s clothing, and I still believe that.

So, my fellow democrats, I’m outa here for awhile; I hope to find some like-minded souls who dare to look at the glass half full.

Good luck to everybody…

And, let’s kick some ass in 2008!
Peace and Blessings
James

3. "don’t, denigrate mine". I think you need to grow another layer of skin.
A little criticism is like butter, like salt, like salsa.

Just makes it better.

Seriously, should we all think the same?

I fucking hope not.

Hell, I don't care for any of the Dem candidates.

4. I was about to post a "don't let the door hit ya" reply but...
I totally agree with you. All of this circular firing is very non-productive. We HAVE to win this country back and it starts in '08 when we have the presidency and a real majority in both houses of Congress. Plus as you say Conyers, Leahy, Waxman and others have been very busy in the last year investigating the Bush crime family and trying to get the truth out.

Peace to ya and hope that you come back sometime.

5. What's happened is....
1) that we all wanted the Dems to corner Bush, they campaigned on it, and once in, they flatly refused;
2) that we're all TERRIFIED of having another 2 terms of Repugnicans, and we have no faith in the candidate being pushed by the media.

THAT is what happened.

7. i agree, and it's hard to contain our disappointment in some elected officials.
But some of the comments I've read are downright immature, combative, and insensitive. It's humanity as usual ... perhaps we just need to get used to it, and avoid DU'ers and posts we don't like.

Maybe we need a new forum: circular firing squad forum.. ;)

9. While no one wants knee-jerks and insensitivity . . .
. . . at the same time, those whose arguments are based upon factual statements and actions from said candidate shouldn't be lumped in with the "negative and pessimistic" crowd who are merely that way for the sake of it.

I'm sorry that the OP doesn't seem to get that some of us have legitimate reasons for not going lockstep. It reeks of "you're either with us or agin' us" and frankly, if the Democratic candidate has trouble defeating the nominee from one of the WEAKEST GOP rostrums (issue positions and climate taken into account) since the 1990s, then maybe the problem isn't with the voters?

18. I don't believe it's about "lockstep". It's about uniting on common interests.
I really hate the word, "lockstep", because it implies the loss of individuality while simultaneously destroying the notion that, we NEED one another to make this life better.

"Lockstep" is an either/or term.

Being united on common causes that serve the whole AND the individual IS NOT LOCKSTEP. It's practical. It's concerned. It's an act beyond onself and for something better in the future.

26. I haven't held my nose and voted in any election and I'm not going to in this one.
Take that as you will.

This world does not need "practical", it needs CHANGE. Not the illusion of change, REAL work-for-the-good-of-the-little-people-for-once CHANGE.

And if the people follow like sheep in the direction the corpmedia is steering them, conceding to inevitability and eventually, more of the same, then I will have no part of it.

Did you read previous posts by the OP, telling us to "make a pledge" to vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is, no matter WHAT? Tell me, what part of that isn't "lockstep"?

The whole implication of these posts, and let's come right out and say it, underhandedly, is this: "There is a chance, you purist lefty anti-war Kucinich libs, that our candidate is going to be someone who you don't want. BUCKLE UP AND DEAL!!! You ain't gettin' a perfect candidate (just in case we didn't already realize that :eyes: ), so STFU!! Because if we lose this, it's ALL on YOU."

Al Gore, a man who SHOULD be running for president, a man who I STILL would be proud to call president had Corporate America not installed THEIR Fuhrer, doesn't think this way.

After the Supreme Kleegle sadly decided for the Failure Fuhrer and corporations, he said (and I'm paraphrasing) "The reason I lost that election is because I did not convince enough people to vote for me".

A bit humble and it makes you sigh.

I have to be convinced of CHANGE, not the illusion of it. I'm not alone in this regard. The country is fast losing hope.

6. internet interactions can be frustrating
As DU has grown, it's become increasingly representative of the general cross-section of society. In real life, social interactions are more personal and dynamic, a function of time and location -- it's easier to avoid people we don't like.

But communication styles are very different on internet forums. Comments range from one-liners to many many lines. Exchanges have significantly longer time delays. Writing styles can be subject to misinterpretation. And in an environment where most members choose to remain anonymous, it's easier to get away with verbal hit-and-runs.

Hopefully, some people will take your insights to heart. But don't expect too much change. Perhaps the best we can do is pick and choose what we read, and be more selective about who we talk to in this forum.

8. Yeah, what shireen said.
For my own peace of mind, I'm trying to limit my time in the Political Discussion area because of the reasons posted in the OP.

I can pretty much predict which threads will drive me crazy just by seeing who started the thread. Since I started avoiding them, my time on DU is more pleasant.

I do believe that we will come together behind our candidate once the primary season is over.

10. "the democrats have been in power less than nine months, yet some of our members . . .
members here seem to think, they should have straightened out all of the damage done by this disgusting administration, in the past six years."

while I'm not in the habit of attacking anyone, and have pretty much stayed out of the fray on this one, I and many others are not as upset at the lack of progress as we are the lack of any sense of urgency . . .

the nation is falling apart . . . the economy is in a tailspin . . . people -- Americans and Iraqis -- are being killed every day for no reason . . . the planet itself is groaning as humans continue to stretch her life-sustaining capacities to the breaking point . . . and we have an administration more akin to organized crime than a government . . .

so we can't help but ask ourselves . . .

don't they see that we're in a crisis unmatched in human history? . . .

don't they care? . . .

either way, the level of urgency and effort we see in Washington falls far, far short of what is required to tackle the critical issues of our time . . . THAT'S what people are upset about . . . it's not that the Democrats are doing this or aren't doing that . . . it's that NO ONE in power is doing ANYTHING to substantively alter the course we've set ourselves on . . . and that course is leading straight to disaster . . .

12. I think we have to raise a little hell,
somewhere along the line during or after the Reagan Era the party decided to move to the right and left their base hanging. After years of catering to the so called middle of the road voters and losing elections after election, the democratic base ran out of patience and started raising their voices. We have to continue to raise our voices and let the party leaders know we refuse to be taking for granted.

16. The total lack of understanding of the how gov functions, is the problem.
Most do not know a state function from a federal function. Most do not know that a DEM from Kansas will not see issues the same as a DEM from MA or AL. Most do not understand that you have to get elected before you can even do anything. Most do not understand the difference between representative gov and a mob.

I understand your frustration.

17. HOGWASH
The notion that the democratic party is some monolithic political party where dissent or diversity of opinion is not allowed is repugnant and reminds me of all that is wrong with the Bush led Republican party.

Nah..... it's all right to criticize our politcal party leadership and in fact................here's something to put in perspective...............it's downright PATRIOTIC.

I have great impatience with the CORPORATE CABAL, too.

However, the OP was thoughtfully expressed.

Characterizing the OP as "HOGWASH" seems lacking in perspective and mostly expressing something about you rather than the individual who composed the OP.

20. But you miss my point
Criticizing is one thing, but we came here as democrats, brothers and sisters in arms, not enemy combatants.

We all have so much in common, but at the same time, we differ, and that's fine!

But to get so personal and downright nasty is ridiculous.
If some people like that, fine, I don’t!
It's fine to disagree - it's fine to criticize, but do it civilly, for heavens sakes.

We are democrats: we need to stay a cut above.

Good luck to you

What generation are you?

Nah........dissent is allowed. I have no intention of abiding by the Nancy Pelosi 'suck it up' and give the GOP all they want to fund a war that requires no sacrifice. Enemy combatants? You bet. The American people didn't elect a democratic majority to give us more of the same.

Nasty? Paleeze. So long as we attempt to stay a cut above, we will be relagated to the back of the bus again and we will be asked to self pump a fill up the next they need to go someplace we don't want to go.
