I just love this movie. It really moved me first time I saw it. I'm sitting here blown away by what Nicholson said right before the rednecks bashed his head in. It's still true today. It's hard to be free when you're bought and sold in the marketplace. I found it on YouTube. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHd6m_cirrU&mode=related&search=And one of the funniest Nicholson clips is when he smokes his first joint and tells Billy about UFOs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73PnAymHAHkSwamp edited for bad editing

1. As it is stated in the documentary that comes with the DVD, Nicholson had to be |

killed, deserving of the ultimate punishment, while the other two were allowed to live, because he was one of them (the straight folk, as established in the earlier scenes, or at least seemed to be to them) and was, thus, a traitor.
I saw this movie many times on TV and always thought it was looked crappy, on purpose. It wasn't until I saw the DVD that I realized it has beautiful road-trip cinematography. Same with "Five Easy Pieces." (Laszlo Kovacs, who just died about a month ago.)

I hadn't heard that speech in a while and it pretty much sums up what's still going on today, 35 yrs later.
