3. Just another two-faced Repuke jerk.... |
|
The DeLay blog site makes it sound like he thinks Lauer is Liberal tool attacking him. So, with that link, I sent DeLay a message:
The Political Life and Mouth of Tom DeLay is an ordeal for all peace loving Americans. He is an argumentative asshole.

9. He lost his leadership positions because |
|
he was indicted and the Republican Party rule was that you can't be in leadership if indicted.
He resigned his seat because he didn't want to be a back bencher under indictment.
One of the three important charges has since been thrown out. There are two charges left, money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. This had to do with the 2002 legislative races.
In December, 2005, Delay's lawyers said they'd be ready to go to court in January 06 and they thought the trial would take less than a month. The DA asked for more time to prepare his case. Then when the one charge was dismissed, the DA appealed the dismissal and asked to delay the trial until the appeals were completed.
Now it's June 2007, and the final appeals have been heard and the court has refused to reinstate the charge. I think the appeals process is now finished. I have not yet heard of a trial date being set though.
As an aside, I read Delay's recent autobiography (library - I didn't pay for it), and there were some interesting tidbits I didn't know. He spent a lot of time growing up in Venezuela. He had a run in with Castro's police as a young child and it had a deep imprint on him. He had a mistress basically his whole life including during the Clinton impeachment. I don't think he wanted one though. I think it was in the Republican Party rules that anyone in leadership must necessarily have a mistress, or one will be provided for you. Like any autobiography, it puts the writer in the best possible light, though in this case, there's only so much lighting can do for you.

11. Let's get a trial date first |
|
It's really wrong for trials to take years before they start.
