Finally, my pics from Kennebunkport. Pic heavy!
Here are a few of my favorites:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
Some of us sort of deviated from the set course, so we could get a better look, and be better looked at from the "summer cottage". I thought these folks with their sign made a perfect frame for the view.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

All of you spirit marchers in front of the compound.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Some Code Pinkers in full spirit. They were a very fun group. Several of them were staying at Camp Casey.
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

The coastline is absolutely beautiful.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

This is the car that Carlos Arredondo drove in the march. He has all kinds of photos, letters, and other mementos of his son, Alex, posted on the car, a flag draped coffin in the back, and many other reminders of what happens to our soldiers in a trailer behind the car. It breaks your heart to look at it. I think meeting Carlos, watching him interact with so many people, and always so busy, busy, busy, affected me and many others in a way we will never forget.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Seems to be one of our very own in this photo.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Cindy at the rally before the march. I met her very briefly before she went on stage. Just long enough to give her a little present, a pin with exchangeable wooden beads so she can wear the number of casualties for all to see. I have one, and made one for her. She thanked me very graciously, kissed me on the cheek, and put it on. You can see it right below the round red/blue button. What a delightful and inspirational speaker.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

This is the Lady Liberty wagon. They were having trouble with one of the back wheels, so one of the vets had to keep guiding it to keep it from falling off.

There are many more pictures available to view here:

Sorry it took so long to post them, but I was having computer problems, and couldn't get them to resize, save or post in Photobucket.

6. Funny you should mention that...
I misspelled one of our DUer's names. I felt so bad when they caught it. I must have looked at that sign 20 times before I put the topcoat/sealer on it.
But you're right...all the signs were coherent, with correct spelling and grammar, and I must say, oh so tastefully done!

14. It really had an impact.
It was hard to get a good photo of it. There were always so many around it, looking and reading so quietly.
I'm glad you all were with me. Never did like marching alone.

Tears falling looking at the picture of Carlos' tribute to his son Alex.

You put great effort in making the poster and it turned out beautiful.
Thank you so much livvy.

11. Yup, I'm in 15 and 51
My marching partner (1st time ever at a protest march with a bad knee to boot!) is in 52. She told me to smile a devilish grin in 51. I'm afraid I wasn't quite successful. Sure do have plenty of teeth, though!

Carlos affected me very deeply. He is so friendly and kind, and has a sweet sense of humor. I met him Friday evening, and then saw him again Saturday before the march, and several times after. His wife was bustling around getting things together, and got him busy getting a little wagon ready so their two little dogs could join them in the march. He took all her no-nonsense directions willingly, and with a bit of humor, shrugging it off when she didn't like his plans for the umbrella covered wagon.

Watching him arrange all the pictures and other visuals with such care did bring me to tears. And all the while he was doing these things, he greeted others with a smile or a hug. He has a large poster of the last letter he received from his son. Such a handsome young man, and his letter was so sweet, a boy just coming into manhood, so brave, and trying to reassure his folks and his brother, all would be ok.

My friend has three adult sons. She couldn't understand how he could continue doing what he does with such strength, courage, and calm determination. He broke her heart, too.

additional information about Carlos and his loving attention to fussing and perfecting the tribute to his son.
What courage and strength they have to attend these rallies. A lot like Cindy has too.

justify it.

Freedom-fighters/terrorists don't like asymmetric warfare; they'd far rather parity of military strength. Although having said, that most terrorist outrages are apparently government-sponsored, LIHOP/MIHOP dark ops, in any case, so the very term, 'terrorist' when applied to the group seemingly responsible can be very ambiguous. The ones that ultimately succeed have the backing of the most of the population - which doesn't augur well for our philanthropic enterprises in the Middle East.

I wonder if Bush will be remembered as a global philanthropist and maybe get a Nobel prize. The Committee has a right-wing bent, but somehow I suspect it might be stretching things a bit too far.

20. you make us proud
thank you for representing DU. I was absolutely thrilled to see my name on the protest placard!

I'm intrigued by the exchangable wooden beads you gave Cindy. Can you post a photo? Are they hard to make? If it's fairly easy and materials don't cost much, perhaps you could sell them on DU? BTW, Cindy looks wonderful! I hope she's been getting some rest. Casey would have been very proud of his Ma. :)

Thanks for the photos. The coast of Maine is breathtaking; I'd love to explore the tidepools for marine critters. It's so sad to see the area polluted by Bushes. One thing I've never understood about the obscenely wealthy conservatives that live in that area. They moved there for the natural beauty yet show no interest in preserving nature.

You did good, Livvy. Thank you for representing us.

24. Here you go...
This was the first one I made. One of my furpack got hold of the extra spools, and ate a bunch of them. He will eat anything that he can fit in his mouth. I couldn't find the little spools at the craft store, so I replaced them with round ones. The one I made for Cindy has the round beads also. They are not difficult to make, but take some time. I use stick on numbers (3 of each), that clear stretchy beading thread, and odds and ends found around the beading section of the craft store.

I actually got the idea from Cindy. A long time ago she was wore a shirt with taped on numbers. It got me thinking about a way to wear something that represented the casualties, and was easy to change.

I check icasualties each morning, and read about some of the soldiers, what's happening in Iraq, etc.

People do notice the pin and ask about it. They used to be surprised by the number, but it seems not so much anymore. Guess more people are finally paying attention. I call it the Sorrow Pin.

31. Beautiful pin!
I bought a package of little wooden beads with letters& numbers on them for my Grandaughter several years ago. If you could find them, you could include a pack with each pin so that the numbers could be changed!

35. I have 3 of each number for interchanging.
I wish I would have found the pre-numbered beads. It would have saved me a lot of time. For my set, I stuck the numbers on, and then had to secure them with nail polish so they wouldn't fall off. The curvature of the beads caused the sticky numbers to become unstuck.
For the set I made for Cindy, I didn't have to do this. The sticky numbers were round, and I just cut little slits in them so they would follow the curvature of the bead.
Thank you for the compliment. I wear mine almost every day.

30. Tidepools
shiren,
I started trying to paint tidepools back in 1964. I say tried because it took about 5 years too figure out a. how to photograph them, (for reference during the wnter months back in the city.) b. how to approach the paintings as they are abstract in character without tangible traditional reference points ( perspective).
In te 70's when I did my first 5, they were a little ahead of their time, and people didn't GET it.
Now I live 2 miles down the road from some of the best, and have gotten in touch with them again.
One of the things I liked best about them was the lithethamnium, ( pink lichen covering the underwater rocks in circular patterns) I am sad & horrified to report, that I now observe a nasty peuce green slimy looking algae? something? encrusting the rocks as well!
Probably in part from the Bush Cigarette boat! And did you notice Poppy is always the one in the driver's seat, either boat or golf cart!

28. These are awesome...
and I thank you again for asking us to march 'in spirit' with you.

I love the pin idea and would like to make something similar. This is a great idea for many reasons, mainly as a reminder to us all of the sacrifices people are making for this senseless war and also it would be a non-threatening conversation starter. I don't know if I have the talent (or the nearby craft supplies here in the boonies) to make one, so if you ever decided to make a few to sell, let us know,

And finally, I was really tearing up when I saw the photos of the Arredondo family vehicle and that sad photo of the handsome young marine in his casket. Really brings it home to one, and I am in awe of the family and their courage in sharing this with us all.

Again, thank you.

It was so gorgeous. I really wanted to get down in the rocks and investigate the pools, but I obvously couldn't at that time, and we didn't have the time after the march to return. Bummer...it is definitely a state I'd like to return to when I have more time.
