In Memoriam this week

http://www.crooksandliars.com/Media/Download/20927/1/ABC-TW-Memoriam.wmv

ABC’s This Week runs a segment every Sunday called In Memoriam, paying tribute to people of note who have passed away and at the end they show the names of U.S. soldiers and marines killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. This week the Pentagon released 21 names.

1. yes, very interesting, I had a partial list of casualties
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 05:40 PM by MissWaverly
8/10 to 8/28 (only 1 listed for 8/28 pending family notification), the funny thing is that the list had 51 names,
the DOD is claiming the casualties for August are down with only 57, now you are saying this week had
21 names listed. I think what we have here is a skewed progress report for the 9/11 surge report coming up.

If you want to check out my list for 8/07, it is here.

3. the DoD is talking only about the "hostile action"
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 05:43 PM by frogcycle
so, for example, the 14 on the helicopter aren't in their number, plus other "natural causes" and "under investigation"

You can see all 81 here: August '07 (I am still missing 3 pictures)

5. yes, I saw them, so sad, I think there was 3 that were close to 40
and the others were in their twenties, with most under 25.

6. well, I think they should be counted if it's being used as
an argument for the surge working.

10. reminds of a Bush cartoon
we are spending the money over there so we don't have to spend it here. But to look at all
these young faces esp. the ones where they used their prom pictures as their eulogy pictures,
it is so sad.

11. The pictures are whatever I can find...
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 06:20 PM by frogcycle
when the news first comes out, local papers sometimes go to the high school for a photo if the family does not give them one, sometimes a "myspace.com" photo.

Sometimes the most recent the family has is the prom photo. Lots of times it is clear the newsperson snapped a picture of a portrait sitting on a table, or sometimes with someone holding it. After a time, for most of them an official army or marine photo gets posted somewhere, and I go back and change.

I check daily for the missing ones. It is really tough when one never shows up, and there is no local-paper story. Sometimes it is just that the town is so small, but I think sometimes it is because the kid really didn't have any family. I've actually written the local paper a few times sending them the DoD announcement from iCasualties, trying to nudge them. Never have looked back to see if it had an affect.

For this one, I could not find any current articles with pictures, but I found an old photo in an article from when the guy graduated from ROTC - his father pinning on his insignia, and mother beaming. that was just last year.

12. it's so sad
all these young lives that have stopped due to a war based on a pack of lies and the
war spinners go on and on with their lies and more get taken to go over to face
the IEDs and the insurgents.

that were killed in the copter crash, icasaulties lists 81 for August 07, the Pentagon claims US deaths are down
with a death toll of 57 for the month of August 2007.

7. look again - I have all 14
Corry Tyler through Tyler Siedeman on 8/22

Of the 81 names for Iraq, 26 are listed as non-hostile and 55 hostile

DoD may have changed two, or they are counting two not yet announced.
