White House sees new backing from Congress over Iraq
by Jitendra Joshi

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush is gaining support among both wavering Republicans and anti-war Democrats for his embattled Iraq strategy, a top White House aide said Sunday.

Speaking as Congress awaits a pivotal report on the progress of Bush's "surge" of nearly 30,000 more troops, new White House counselor Ed Gillespie said the deployment was curbing Iraq's rampant bloodshed.

During August, he told Fox News, the surge "has had the intended effect of helping to secure the population, and that is now translating into the goal of allowing for progress to be made on the political front in Iraq as well."

"And so I think that we hear from members of Congress from both sides of the aisle who have been over to Iraq during this August break who have come back and have seen this progress and have told their constituents about it."

2. The first sentence is false, if one reads the rest of the article.
Shelby is joining Warner in expecting a pullout of some troops pretty soon. I didn't read where ANYBODY is suddenly supporting the administration--who are they talking about?

5. Isn't it interesting how support for the war seems to rise in the mid-point between elections?
We're far enough removed from the elections of 2006 and not near enough the elections of 2008 for them to give a rat's fucking ass what the American people think.

They have absolutely ZERO reason to take the American people's desires into account.

And that goes for BOTH fucking sides of the aisle.

:tinfoilhat: hhhhmm, Okay, maybe the leak of Craig's 2 month old arrest and guilty plea was planned. Maybe the admin has dirt on dozens of the members of Congress because they have been illegally wiretapping members of congress and their political foes for years and they know where the skeletons are hidden and they helped bury the bodies.

I'm not saying those that have had a sudden change of heart did what it is Craig did, I'm just saying they could have a potential scandal in their future. The media slaughter of Craig and his resignation were all part of the message. (Craig resigned way to early and easily, imho. He didn't put up much of a fight and they never asked Vitter to resign.)

Maybe Craig's media hell was just a sign for those that have not been perfect while in office, mess with this admin and the leaks will happen and you will pay.

11. I think you're on to something--I said so earlier today, that I believe
Craig is an example of "Do not cross us", since he has broken with the admin on the Patriot Act, and Bush was supposedly furious with him and wanted him out of the Senate. I have no doubt they have dirt on the GOPers and will use it, but the question in my mind is, when will they go after the GOP Senators who have already spoken out against Iraq? I imagine Warner is retiring because he's old, so they can't do much to him--but what awaits the rest of them?

17. Hell, Shelby's plane was fired upon

Who knows what these folks are capable of doing.

There have been prosecutions across the nation of democratic leaders, those that could financially make a difference. Look at the Alabama former governor's conviction.

These people are freaks, they don't give a damn about the rule of law or humanity, their only concern is power, control and profit.

:scared:

9. The same backing they have had all along.
It seems that elections and representative democracy are facades, rituals that are engaged in by the ruling class to keep the mob happy and/or confused, but are not meant to alter policy or change programs.

14. It's the Inevitablilty Game again
This is the same game they ran on us in to market invading Iraq: It's a done deal, everyone supports it, everyone's okay with it, nobody's questioning it. Plant idea in national media, lather, rinse, and repeat. Also comes in Iran flavor.

20. Of course he did
The mother of his children is up to her eyeballs in the corruption of this administration.

I'm sure it is a frightening image he has, her in prison orange as he brings the kids to see her on the weekends.

21. The members of congress who voted for the invasion of Iraq
the first time have all said if they knew then what they know now they wouldn't have voted.

Well they know now...they know they lives spent, Iraqi and American. They know how much money has been squandered and stolen by Halliburton and goodness knows who. SO THERE IS NO DAMN EXCUSE TO VOTE YES THIS TIME...NO EXCUSE AT ALL.
