Listen Up Returning Congress - This Is What You Must Do |
|
Returning Congresspersons: I am sure you all had an interesting month back at home, I suppose you got an earfull everywhere you went. If you have any plans for reelection in 2008 here is what you must do. Stop George Bush. You do not have to reverse anything he has done, you do not have to introduce any bold new measures, you don't have to impeach him and you don't even have to hold any more hearings to determine just how bad it is. All you have to do is stop him and hold the line for another year and a few months.
Forget about a replacement for Gonzo; the Department of Justice isn't going to get any better with George's choice for replacement so just let the post go vacant. Forget appointing any - that's right, 'any' - new Federal Judges, let the posts go vacant. You can continue to fund the war, just at increasingly reduced levels. You can pass budgets, but no increases. You may not cut any more taxes.
What you must do is stop him. Stop what support he has in Congress too. Quit allowing yourselves to be pushed around by Republican Representatives and Senators - shove them into the back rooms and throw wet blankets over them just as the Republicans have done to you for the last decade. And when you've done that bring George Bush's Presidency to a screeching halt. Give him nothing. Make him stay in Washington and then stop him from making this country any worse off than it is today. You can fix things after he's gone.
And what happens if you can not or will not do even these simple things? You will be removed from office in 2008, that is what will happen.

2. While I agree with many of your points |

I don't agree about no replacement for Gonzo. The post isn't really vacant- Paul Clement is acting AG. I'll trust Leahy on this one.
