Leona's brother snubs $12M dog
September 4, 2007 -- She was left $12 million, but money can't buy Trouble love.

Leona Helmsley's petite, pampered pooch has been living with the hired help at the late Queen of Mean's Connecticut estate because her new owner doesn't want to have anything to do with her, The Post has learned.

In her will, Helmsley asked that her brother, Alvin Rosenthal, take care of the dog, but a source said he "doesn't want it."

(snip)

In addition to having her request that Rosenthal take care of her cute but cranky canine snubbed, officials at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery say they can't honor Helmsley's wish to someday have Trouble buried at her side because dogs aren't allowed to be buried in human graveyards in New York.

1. ok, ok, silliness aside... I wonder what the logic is in not allowing
dogs to be buried in human graveyards....? Geez, if you pay for it and it is handled per the human burial restrictions, what's the issue? I know her $12 million bequeath is ridiculous, but many pet owners can understand the desire to have ones beloved pet buried with them when the time comes. I hope her attorneys do fight for her last wish, if for no other reason than their ethical requirement to her.

2. I don't know.
My neighbors have a mixed human/animal graveyard. I just buried my much beloved dog there.

3. He should take it and send it to the Dog Whisperer
it would be a great thing for the dog and Helmsley would spin in her grave.

4. I'LL take him! (Her. It. Whatever.)
:hi: And I promise to give Him/Her/It/Whatever all the Tasty Vittles or Purina or filet mignon or whatever the hell it wants for the rest of its little life! Just affix the check to his/her/whatever's little diamond collar and tell me where to pick him/her/whatever up!

And I promise I won't even pay taxes on it!

7. Bequeathing money to pets is no assurance that they will be loved.
Every pet/person has a special bond that cannot be transferred to anyone else. Too bad that Leona did not find a person who WANTED her pooch, and left THEM the money to care for the little doggie..and the rest of the money could have been donated to no-kill shelters..

I have a similar problem with my kitties.. None of my children or friends would be suitable caretakers if something happened to us . They are either allergic or not cat-lovers.

We just have to hope that somehow we can outlive this band of rowdy cats we find ourselves with :)

8. I don't imagine the Queen HAD any friends who liked her and the dog
enough to take on the pooch as a favor to her. My guess is, it's a spoiled nasty biter that nobody likes.

11. I'll step up and volunteer to take the dog!
For a mere $1,000 per diem I'll give the pooch the life of luxury it's apparently entitled to. Of course, we're going to need some of that 12 million for improvements to Casa Vinca - like maybe a new kitchen for preparing gourmet dog meals and a pool so the puppy can take a dip. And I suppose the poor dog would feel like white trash riding in a Rav4, so we'll need to buy him a cute, little Mercedes convertible. What a plan!
