RE: Impeachment
Dear Madam Speaker,
After you were elected to your current position, you let it be known that “impeachment” was off the table, as it were, if I may. Since then, we learned of the abusive behavior of Card and Gonzales regarding an ILLEGAL domestic surveillance program that the White House insisted on and approved. Since then, the House of Representatives has caved in on an incredible FISA vote, you allowed an absolutely unwarranted vote on the Surge, and have otherwise allowed the White House to dictate policy and funding - a job reserved for our Congress.
If you ever stop to think why Congress polls at 18% while the President polls at 25%, the answer is in front of you, if you only dared open your eyes to the obvious. This is the most criminal administration in the history of America. Even the Tea Pot Dome scandal doesn’t hold a candle to the high crimes and misdemeanors of this cabal.
It matters not whether you have the votes to impeach this president and his vice president. It only matters that the constitution REQUIRES such an action, not just for illegal surveillance, but for the lies that led to the occupation of Iraq, the torture, the politicization of the Department of Justice, and much more. IT IS YOUR DUTY TO START IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS, if only to stop these criminals from taking even worse steps in the near future. One glaring problem is the upcoming attack on Iran, a country that offered its support for a concerted, combined effort on those forces directly related to terrorism. Unfortunately, VP Cheney managed to turn us away from cooperation and move us towards another illegal, immoral and unconstitutional war.
If you feel incapable of taking this important step, if you continue to think that Impeachment is unwarranted, then you should reconsider your ability to maintain this office and seriously question your right to act as the Speaker of the House. When even a GOP player like Bruce Fein demands that impeachment proceedings begin, you should realize that it is you that is in the minority. And that explains the 18% support that you have earned this congress.
I enclose a petition signed by a many patriots. There are other signatures being gathered around the country. You cannot, no, our country cannot afford any further delay.
