What does the Media do right?

I don't mean right in the sense of "Well the sure do a good job of distorting the truth" or "They are experts at trashing Liberals." I mean in the traditional sense - what does the Media do that you approve of?

Reports of missing children and missing incapacitated adults. Reports of higher than usual crime stats in certain neighborhods so that residents can be extra vigilant. Flu and other communicable illness epidemics. Rabid animals on the loose. Restaurant inspection reports. Arrest reports of public officials, teachers, scout leaders etc.
