Alleged comedian Jerry Lewis has issued a statement to CNN, following the public outcry over his use of a gay slur on this weekend's MDA Telethon:

"During the 21-1/2-hour live broadcast of my Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this weekend, I made a joking comment to a member of my production team. I apologize to anyone who was offended. I obviously made a bad choice of words. Everyone who knows me understands that I hold no prejudices in this regard. In the family atmosphere of the Telethon, I forget that not everyone knows me that well. That something like this would distract from the true purpose of the Telethon pains me deeply. The success of the show and all the good that will come from it shouldn't be lost because of one unfortunate word. I accept responsibility for what I said. There are no excuses. I am sorry."

OK, now let's get back to putting impeachment on the table.

1. 'Nuf said, move on.
Shit, thy guy has raised untold millions to find a cure for MS and now he should be hung for a slip of the lip?

7. Agree totally...
No kicking a dead horse, or certainly a well-meaning philanthropist, in this case.

3. If people would just STOP using slurs (racial, gay, or otherwise)
in their daily language, then it wouldn't matter if they were "in the family atmosphere" when they had a "slip of the tongue."

Hello?

5. He apologized. Can't we forgive him this one slip?

6. I don't care about him one way or the other.
I was making a more general statement. People who "slip" on television "this one time" are used to using the slurs as a matter of course, whether it is the n-word that 'slipped' or 'fag' or whatever.

14. You may be entirely right, Lex,
but I am close friends with people who like to tease, and we often make comments in PRIVATE to each other that would sound terrible if broadcast. Does that make us BAD? I don't think so since we are close friends and understand the teasing. If Jerry is used to that relationship with his production team, I can see how it slipped out, and it would NOT indicate that he uses slurs in a disrespecting way. Since I don't know him personally, I haven't a clue to the truth.

I respect an upfront apology that doesn't involve going into rehab as an "excuse."

8. No, he apologized. You have to quit talking about it now.
It's like when Bush said he was sorry to the people of Iraq, looks like we bombed the shit out of the wrong country. Sorry about all your dead family members. Our bad, we won't do it again. Don't you remember? And then the people of Iraq were all like, okay, we forgive you, no harm no foul, but please be more careful next time. I'm sure this was in the news. And then they were like, say, if your army's still doing nothing, do you think you could hang around and keep the peace until we can organize a stable government? And Bush was like, sure, no prob; but make it fast because we just figured out the right country to bomb the shit out of: Iran. I'm sure you recall all this. I think it was in the papers or something.

Anyway, it's an apology. By law, you have to accept it and never mention the subject again. Unless you hate Jerry's Kids.

9. You are comparing Jerry Lewis faux pas to bush murdering people?

10. Actually, I was comparing the scope of the offense
I think Lewis was just being a tacky old man. But he apologized like a mensch for a relatively small offense. Bush has gotten multitudes killed. He deals with it differently. That was my point.

12. ...Sigh... As far as I know Jerry has never killed anyone. He has
indisputably helped thousands of sick and suffering children for over 50 years. And no, I don't recall bush apologizing to the Iraqis, the world at large, or a single soldiers widow or orphans. I don't see the connection.
