The story of the Florida double murder and suicide of three Republican activists with ties to McHenry gets stranger and stranger every day. We were the first to report off-the-record sources tying McHenry to victim and dirty-tricks operative Ralph Gonzalez.

We’ve reported that the North Carolina Conservative has tied McHenry to the shooter, Drake (who has ties to Rutherford County and was buried there.

But now, according to Howie Klein Down With Tyranny McHenry’s staff is admitting the connection:

13. I've become a bit jaded and tend to auto-translate when I read news stories.

When I saw a quote in the Sentinel, "...and we may never know what happened." I immediately translated that as "We know exactly what happened and we're going to bust our asses covering it up."

One of the victims tried to organize a fundraiser for the Republicans back when he was in college. He arranged for a Turkey Shoot. $2 for a shot at a cut out of President Bill Clinton. Needless to say the Secret Service climbed all over him and he pulled the fundraiser. But geez, doesn't it say something about these right wing nutbags that they would think this was acceptable fun in the first place?

I have been told that Bush and his group put money in to 10 district to enable him to win, he claimed he lived in the 10 district, I don't know if he died or manuf the story


I live in the 10 district which is a republican strong hold, when long time re publican Congressman retired, we had a sheriff of 35 years that republicans and some democrats like and thought he would be a cakewalk, Bush Abranhoff and Delay and other Bush people are suppose to have come in here and help the young Mc Henry buy his way in office, in the primary I think Mc Henry won by thirty five votes, I think there was a rerun ( Not sure can't remember) I do know my daughter was told she was dying with cancer, one the day that one of the test was done on her lung, was election day, she told the doctor she should be voting for her long time friend the sherriff, she came home a few days later, as I was going in the house her phone rung, I picked it up and answered as if I was my daughter, told she was voting for the sherriff, and told them I had some one terminal with cancer pleas don't call back, they called back the next day. There has been little things that I have heard and read that makes you think he is gay, one here on Du, that linked you to a Gay site I think it was in the HIckory area, not sure.

Was only 48 years old,she was only sick that I know of for about a month and a half. Went in for a hysterectomy and was told she had something on her lungs that looked like tiny fuzzy balls, she was fine on the day she went to set the time for her surgery something happened and they had to wait a day, the morning she was to go she got out of bed and could hardly take a bath, it was her lungs, we didn't know, when we got to the hospital she told them she couldn't get down the hall to make a picture of her chest, when they took it is when the told her she couldn't have susrgery, they think she took phenomia on top of the lung thing, she got a little better took treatment, but only lasted about three weeks, I was so upset I don't know the exact date she went in...andy when they sent her home for a week , is when the idiot kelp calling her. She had known the old sherriff since she was working in a Harris Teeter Graocery Store, and going to college. She wasn't married and when she traveled, he told her to buy a gun and come in he would do the paper work for her. just many things he did for her. The republicans in this area that is many of them are still angry with MCHenry, it was in other counties that beat our sheriff

I have two other daughters and a son, she wasn't married and held the family togeather, we never left her for a minute from the time she knew she had cancer until she died, we took times staying with her.

I wrote an editorial letter to the Hickory Daily Record ,the republicans always gave Bill hell, I wrote it an brought in how Bush and boys helped elected McHenry, (I know why I wrote it,) someone wrote one on the top democrat in the area, raising his voice and raising heck over something... I told them if the republicans in the area that knew what Bush and his boys were up to, would have raised their voices and raised a little hell,McHenry wouldn't have gotten elected, I said some of you had to know what was going on yet you sat there with your mouthes closed, causing a man that republicans and some democrats like to get beaten.

23. McHenry's keeping a low profile now

According to Drama Queen, who Bear425 linked to above, this guy is on the defensive. She says that up until the time of the murders he had been holding "town hall meetings" in his district. Increasingly over the past few weeks he had been finding a way to tell his constituents that he was hoping to get married and have kids "as soon as he found the right girl". Apparently, the rumors had been getting too hot and he was trying to squelch them. His town meetings were also getting a little heated at times, with his constituents starting to ask more and more pointed questions about his unreported real estate transactions and his (lack) of military service/support for the surge, etc. At one point, after an especially challenging question by a senior citizen in the audience, he cut off the meeting with over an hour still remaining. DQ has also been raising a lot of questions about his real estate business, his reported income, his net worth (where DID that money come from?). He has had a lot to be defensive about. There have been no more public meeting with the constituents since the double murder/suicide.

You’ll remember the series of posts I made on the rumors of Representative Patrick McHenry’s (R-NC, 10th District) sexuality. I’m sure you’ll also remember his aide, Michael Aaron Lay, who was charged with voter fraud.

After rounds and rounds of posts, an apology on my part and major criticism of me from Lay’s friends and associates, the criminal Congressional aide has affirmed my worst fears and the predictions of most politically active folks in North Carolina.

Yesterday, Lay plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor election fraud, despite the urgent pleas of his innocence from both him and his friends.

Perhaps my apology was never needed.

Lay’s indictment and now his guilty plea constitute just one more tally on the long list of McHenry improprieties. McHenry, a corrupt, shameless politician, can in no way represent the people of North Carolina’s 10th District and must be removed from office. There is no way he did not know and did not have any part in Lay’s election and voter fraud; Lay was, of course, living in McHenry’s home.

McHenry is giving North Carolina a bad name. He cannot be allowed to continue representing our state.

This is what I do know:

1. McHenry is a known ally of high level murdered Republican dirty tricks consultant Ralph Gonzalez and of his alleged shooter Jason Robert Drake.

2. Something is hinky about the police investigation. (Perhaps it’s just the way they talk* about it but it just doesn’t seem authentic.)

3. The traditional media’s response to this is totally suspicious and inexplicable. Google and see for yourself. (Imagine them ignoring the murder of two prominent young gay Democratic operatives. You can’t do it.)

4. A disinformation campaign of some kind has begun particularly concerning Jason Drake, whether it’s the initial reports that were false or the subsequent rebuttals, I can’t say at this point. I’m doubting the responses but I don’t have any primary sources on the initial reports.

5. We know from experience that no media outlets in the 10th Congressional District will cover, much less research this story.

Until enough trained professional investigators take on this case, I am going to do what I can to keep it alive. Once more experienced researchers with better resources take this on, I’ll pass on everything they report and do my best to assist them.
