Al Gore on our mind...

From NBC's Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro

It's been a while since we've heard Al Gore buzz. Expect more to come in the next six weeks as the Nobel prize campaign wraps up (the winner is announced on October 12). If Gore wins it, watch for buzz to explode again.

An Oscar, a Nobel prize, why not filing papers too?

What has piqued our interest in Gore is a new article in Vanity Fair -- written by the daughter of Gore friend Marty Peretz -- which notes the critical press coverage Gore received during his 2000 campaign. "Eight years ago, in the bastions of the 'liberal media' that were supposed to love Gore—The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, CNN—he was variously described as 'repellent,' 'delusional,' a vote-rigger, a man who 'lies like a rug,' 'Pinocchio.' Eric Pooley, who covered him for Time magazine, says, 'He brought out the creative-writing student in so many reporters... Everybody kind of let loose on the guy.'"

Draft Gore group boasts 1,000 NH signatures

A New Hampshire based "Draft Gore" group claims to have 1,000 signatures from New Hampshire voters who want Al Gore to enter the presidential race.

Draft Gore New Hampshire, based in Littleton, said in a press release that organizers have collected the names in a petition drive at picnics, campaign events, fairs, and parades this summer. They plan to continue the effort this fall.

"The results of our petition drive indicate that there is a strong undercurrent of support for Al Gore in New Hampshire which is not reflected accurately in polls or in the opinions of visiting out-of-state media pundits," according to Farrell Seiler, statewide coordinator of the organization.

Nevertheless, Gore has repeatedly said he is not interested in running and has made no public moves suggesting to the contrary.

Al Gore to Hit the Emmy Red Carpet
Categories: awards, politics
Forget politics, Al Gore is all about the red carpet!

Okay, maybe not.

But earlier this year, the former vice president popped up at the Grammys as a presenter with Queen Latifah (above). Not long after that, he was on the Oscar stage as part of the winning team for his global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

Now, I hear Gore is expected to be at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 16. He has good reason to attend. Current TV, the cable television network Gore launched with business man Joel Hyatt about two years ago, is up for an Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Television Emmy.

Does this mean if Current wins, Gore will be the one onstage making the acceptance speech? His peeps aren’t saying.

Gore’s spokesperson referred us to a rep for Current. While the rep said they’re “delighted to be finalists,” he declined to confirm if Gore would be attending, nor would he reveal who has been chosen to deliver the acceptance speech if Current wins.

1. Is September 16th significant somehow?
Erm, aside from being the date of the Emmys obviously...

2. I hope it's something good. What comes to mind for me is the
article about the SURGE of put-options that are targeted for market action five days after Sep 16.
