1. I hope he sticks around. |

The more time he has in which to embarrass the bigoted fundie hypocrites that comprise a large segment of the demented mob sometimes called the Republican Party, the better.

20. I don't know what to think about this. |
|
I'm sure if he were caught with a woman in the bathroom he would still be in the Senate just like David vittor. This is part of our country's bigotry towards homosexuals. And the reports make it sound like he didn't do anything except tap his foot and look in the stall. It all sounds so weird, and I can see the reasoning behind pleading guilty to hide it considering hes a public figure. But then there are reports he has done this before. That said, I don't know that I necessarily like cops in bathrooms trying to entrap gay men.

"And the reports make it sound like he didn't do anything except tap his foot and look in the stall."
Where does the right to peek through a crack in a bathroom stall at someone on the shitter come from?
When I go into the bathroom and lock the door I don't want anybody peeking though a crack in it, even if that person looks like Brad Pitt or Natalie Portman.

I'm sorry I did not know that. Yeah if thats the truth, that sounds pretty bad. But was the cop doing something to give the appearence he was "cruiser" also. I'm not defending vittor, but it sounds like the reason he has to resign is because its gay sex, and not heterosexual sex.

But I know there are cops all over the country who use entrapment. We don't know the facts of this case, and its mostly his word against the senator's.

42. Umm, you apparently are not aware |
|
that these cops had made online "dates" with people, lured them to that specific restroom, dressed as they had indicated they would to their "prey", and then busted them when they reciprocated the advances.
Have no idea if that happened with Craig, more than likely he walked unknowingly into an ongoing sting.
But, if someone like Craig was used to doing this, and someone like the cop was used to baiting people, there is no way in hell Craig stood outside that stall door for one or two minutes without the cop cruising him back.
To preempt the "you're defending toilet sex!" crowd. No, I'm not. Craig is an idiot. I'm just explaining that there was an ongoing sting and that had the cop NOT returned Craig's gaze initially, Craig would have moved on to find someone else more interested.

39. True that would be bad. |
|
But there isn't a cruising heterosexual scene. And I believe the cop was in the stall for a very long time to give the appearence he was a cruiser also. I would say the real equivilent of this would be getting caught joining the mile high club with a consenting intern.

40. There's a hetero prostitution scene |
|
There will never be a quicky sex with women scene because women can go to any bar and get laid any time they want. So much so, that quicky scenes for hetero men require payment - and yes there are many alley and restroom scenes where prostitution stings occur. If hookers started congregating at the A&W up the street from me, you know what, I want them arrested. Them and the johns.
It's all well and good to think about somebody's freedom to live their life however they want, until you have to live with others choices yourself.
Toilet Sex is not acceptable, particularly not at the friggin' airport.

45. That's because of Blanco |
|
and the hyper-partisan situation we're in.
Perhaps you've forgotten all the other Congressmen who were forced to resign over hetero sex scandals - Bob Packwood comes to mind right off. Bob Livingston for having an affair. Jack Ryan withdrew from the Illinois race. Gary Hart from the Presidential race.
Any other time, Vitter would have been gone. It's only because they don't want a Dem appointed in LA, which would give that person an automatic advantage as the incumbent.

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=nation_world&id=5635193Way to go, Larry! Washington - AP, September 4, 2007) - Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening.
"It's not such a foregone conclusion anymore, that the only thing he could do was resign," said Sidney Smith, Craig's spokesman in Idaho's capital.
"We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight - and stay in the Senate."
