Summer is over. Time to pack up the picnic baskets, pool toys, and baseball gloves and prepare for the serious season . . . . Congress is back to work today, but Chickenhawk Chucklenutz managed to squeeze in one last vacation stop before returning to Washington to continue the "hard work" of wrecking the country.

As we all know, Raisin Brain made a surprise visit to Iraq yesterday and he didn't even bring a plastic turkey. Looks like he'll do anything to avoid talking about the plight of working people on Labor Day. But he did hint at the possibility of future troop reductions. It's not like he has much choice in the matter, given that Pentagon reports clearly state that he's running out of toy soldiers to send to make big boom-boom in the mid east.

Bush refused to answer any direct questions about this possible draw-down in several post-visit interviews, being deliberately vague about how soon troops might come home or whether or not its logical to continue to surge in more soldiers given the lack of any progress by the Maliki (puppet) government. Instead he rambled on about "progress" and "listening to the generals on the ground" and the "importance of freedom and democracy" in the region.

Blah blah blah.

Bush did speak in more detail about the weather: " . . . it's pretty stark out here and it's hot. Kind of reminds me in terms of the temperature what West Texas was like when I was growing up." Yeah, it's all about him and it's just like West Texas. Except for all the carpet bombs, depleted uranium munitions, rapes, torture, dead babies, destruction of antiquities, theft of the treasury, car bombs, devastated homes, lack of proper troop training and/or equipment, sectarian violence and total regional disruption.

Other than that it's exactly the same.

Cosmo's still in the hospital, we've been going to see him every day. On Sunday they put in a esophageal tube because he wasn't eating. I got concerned when the vet first mentioned that she wanted to do this, but she explained it wouldn't prevent him from eating solid food and it would make it easier for us to give him his meds. She also said I'd be able to use it to give him fluids. He looked awful yesterday when we went to see him. They had to move him back into ICU overnight because his temperature was so low. They warmed him up and changed his fluids and he looked much better today. After dicussing what we can expect from his treatments with his doctor, we've decided to bring him home on Thursday. By then it will be obvious that we've done everything that we could for him. If he's stablized, we will do everything we need to for him to keep him around for as long as we can. If he isn't, we'll do what we can to keep him comfortable for one last weekend at home.

First Mike, in theory yes, those trucks have to meet US Standards, why on their way out the Republicans passed a law that basically said... they only have to meet 50%

Having read the pesky side agreements there are so many aspects that were never enforced and will never be enforced it is not even funny

Here is one that most folks don't know, incredibly not even immigration lawyers

Per NAFTA we don't have a brown people invasion, since in theory citizens of the three countries can move freely in search of jobs, no papers needed. Now that side agreement is not only not enforced but most folks ignore it. Why the Mexican Government does not act like this is a problem. since LEGALLY it is not

The trucks, in theory, had to meet our standards... why the republicans passed a bill saying not really back in January on the way out.

In practice nobody will check, since NAFTA (Passed by Bush Sr, yes I checked on that) is meant for pure cheap labor

And yep, a side hobby of mine, readying international agreements, I am not a lawyer, though that may change some day, but I have read enough agreements to more or less know what they mean.

Now if our truckers were bright about this, go meet with the UNION in Mexico and basically help them get to OUR job level... but then again there is CAFTA... and that is the fear as well... after all NAFTA has been a raging success in Mexico as well, really... NOT.

I am hoping against any hope that our useless congress will vote to get the hell out of all these agreements quite frankly.. They might have been a good concept, but the implementation is so selective it is not even funny.
