Bill Clinton on Oprah today....inspiration needed during these times
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 08:43 PM by CurtEastPoint
I know, I know. Oprah. BUT she does have some good stuff on there. Today's show was truly needed at this time. Clinton talked about his new book "Giving" and how each of us can do things that really make a difference. Andre Agassi was on too and they showed his Academy in Las Vegas which really works... kids people had given up on produced the the highest scores in the state of NV. Plus a young IL girl who raised tons of $$ for children orphaned by AIDS in Africa, while undergoing liver transplantation. Truly amazing people. YES...one person can make a difference.

There was also a really interesting piece of a young couple who were working in E. Africa and got into the microcredit thing. The site is www.kiva.org. Fascinating opportunities to help someone foster their businesses on the other side of the world even with small loans. The payback ratio is absolutely amazing. Check it out!

1. I happened to see the last 15 minutes of it
and was struck by a couple of thoughts - one, the one that always comes to mind when I see Bill Clinton...damn, why couldn't he have stayed president? He's so smart, so commanding, so human. And two, this kiva thing is something I can do. I tried to get on the website earlier but it was down because it was overwhelmed. I'll try again tomorrow. Apparently you can make loans of astoundingly tiny amounts - as small as $25 - and really help someone. It sounds wonderful.

3. When the principal of the high school introduced Bill C to an assembly of students
they went absolutely nuts! As did Oprah's audience. Can you imagine what kind of reception the current squatter of 1600 PA Ave. would get?
