... Just in case you ever, by some quirk of fate, find yourself in a situation where the remark seems relevant, you'll be READY.

Go!

I hear Bluebear's a little slow on the uptake, tho.

9. My premise:
was that these ladies:

would not be "Hollywood ideal" size nowadays and that female body image is manipulated by the media so that women turn against their wons bodies because the "stars" tell them they are too plump.

13. I watched this hysterical clip and there is no way Lucy was equivelant to a size 2 now.
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 09:30 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
She looks like she's size 12. I realize the clip was about her not fitting into a 12, so maybe the sizes changed a teensy bit.

Here's a cool old ad!

6. No kidding.
In college I was an 8 - 10. Now, twenty pounds heavier, I'm a 6 - 8. Every now and then I'm a four!

I haven't noticed the same size inflation in bras. Too bad.

26. No - this is true.
I still lobby for women to have men's clothing sizes - where we buy clothes to fit our waist, hips and inseam - and add to that, our bust.

It would be so much fucking easier.

I HATE to shop - I didn't get that genome on my X chromosome and it would make it sooooo much easier to shop on ebay and other web sites.

I was a 2 in college - sometimes - sometimes a 4. Sometimes a 6. Now, after two kids, I'm a 6? No - an 8. NO! I'm a 10. NO! I'm a 12, but then next week I'm an 8. No... a 6.

THAT SUCKS! I just want to know what the fuck to buy! Damnit.

:hi:

True story, btw.

11. This is absolutely true.
I don't have a link!? WTF?

The numbers are the same but the sizes are larger.

There is now XS size that used to be small. Which would fit a woman from the sizes 0-3.

20 years ago I was a 3. Now depending upon my weight, I fluctuate between + and - 10 pounds, depending upon my emotional state and the amount of chocolate I am consuming; I can be.

Mind you right now I am at about 113 pds. But can get up to about 123 if I don't watch it. I am 5'2 and small framed. At 113 I can wear a 0-1 size. At 123 I wear 5-7.

20-25 years ago I weighed about 100 pounds.

17. Come on, now. Are you saying that women are FATTER
nowadays?

Well it's true. But....it's not only WOMEN but also MEN who are fatter. I just read an article which said that the average weight keeps going up...and up.....and up....every month.

Quiz
What's the average weight of women now?
What about men?

I weighed 140 lbs and was a size 12 in high school.

Fast forward 20 years, 35 lbs, and 3 births, and.. you guessed it...

I wear a size 12.

Explain THAT one!!!

Edited for verb subject tense agreement.

24. It's not just "time" but also designer and place of assembly
Many designers deliberately "downsize" making what Old Navy would sell as a size 8 and calling it a 6.

That other thread, I wouldn't touch. It's a train wreck of Googleducation. Folks talking about obesity as if they actually knew shit that they didn't learn from a quick search engine find.

27. They have - and it's stupid that they have.
Hell... this is probably my biggest pet peeve. That we can't fucking purchase clothes on ebay because a size 6 to one company is a 4 to another is an 8 to yet another.

:grr:

I know this is supposed to be a funny thread, but, as a woman who hates to shop and try on clothes, this annoys the ever-luvin' hell outta me. I just want to be able to go online, pick an outfit and a size, pay for it and be the fuck done with it.

Sorry...

I can't stand to shop and I keep hoping I can bypass pink and Barbie and shopping.

No such luck, huh?

Or, as Lucy would say, "Waaaaaaaaaa!"

32. Sizes have made a major downward slide
When I was too thin at 115 pounds, I wore a size nine. Thirty years and thirty pounds later, I wore an eight. By today's standards, my 115-pound measurements (32-23-34) would be a size two. Or zero.

35. Men's clothing too
Go ahead, men: when you get home, take a tape measure (the cloth kind, not the one in your tool box :eyes: ) and run it through your belt loops. You will find the tape measuring 1 to 2 inches more than your pants size.

If you or someone you know is a pack-rat, try this. Get two mail-order catalogues (from the same company, if possible), one recent and one from 20 years ago. Compare the chest measurements for an XL shirt. The XL shirt in the recent catalogue will be anywhere from 1 to 4 inches larger than what an XL shirt measured 20 years ago.

The rationale is very simple: Flatter your aging customer, and he will chose to buy from the company who sells shirts that fit rather than from the company whose clothes are too damned small. After all, you wore a 32 in high school and damn it, you still wear a 32.
