My please impeach letter: Dear Representative Welch;
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 07:34 AM by cali
I'm writing today to ask you to please reconsider your stance on the impeachment of Richard Cheney and George Bush.

I have only recently come to the conclusion that impeaching the Vice-President and President, is vitally important to the Constitution and the nation.

As you have stated, there are grounds for impeachment.

I realize that impeachment is at the discretion of the Congress, and you aren't compelled to act, but let me ask you this: If Cheney and bush aren't impeached, doesn't that raise the bar for impeachment to ridiculous heights? What, in the future, would a president have to do to be held accountable by means of impeachment? I don't need to list the many actions of this administration that have violated the Constitution, you're surely more aware of them than I am.

I believe that had Clinton NOT been impeached, the new Congress would have impeached Bush by now. Please don't let the travesty of that illegitimate impeachment be an impediment.

Impeachment may not succeed, but that in and of itself is not sufficient reason to not pursue the remedy best suited for this untenable situation.

Impeachment may well be the only means to rein in an out of control administration.

Please reconsider your opposition to impeachment.

Sincerely,

2. For the life of me I can't understand Peter Welch on this issue -
and Bernie Sanders is pretty much in the same boat. They know Shrub ought to be impeached and needs to be impeached, but for whatever reason believe it would be a waste of time. My Representative, Paul Hodes, is with them. When I wrote I asked what future generations will think when they realize what we allowed to happen and allowed to continue. Nancy's got them by the balls.

3. I'm afraid you're right
Both Hodes and Welch have been embraced by Pelosi and given an unusual amount of influence for freshman lawmakers. I hate to say it, because I like Welch quite a lot, but I believe his reluctance comes from his fear of pissing off Pelosi.

4. Do you think anyone will oppose Welch in the next election?
I've heard people are trying to get Dan DeWalt to run. The people of Vermont, unlike many other states, do not put up with BS. The message to Peter was clear as a bell.

5. DeWalt may run
If he's not the Prog candidate someone else will be, but realistically, no opponent stands a chance. A prog candidate might get up to 30% but I don't think there's much of a chance they'd get more. And DeWalt isn't a great candidate. I'd much rather see this guy run. I'd vote for him against Welch:

David Zuckerman is a farmer and a Progressive member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing Chittenden-3-4 district.

Zuckerman ran for the Vermont House in 1994 while enrolled at the University of Vermont. He lost by only 59 votes, but came back two years later to become the fourth Progressive Party member to serve in the State House. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the House Agriculture Committee and the Chittenden County Board of the Vermont Farm Bureau. He has also served on the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee and the Burlington Electric Commission.

In 2005, Zuckerman announced his intentions to run for the sole Vermont seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2006 U.S. House election, then withdrew from the race in February 2006, having decided to continue serving as Agriculture Chair in the Vermont House of Representatives.

On April 25, 2006, Zuckerman introduced legislation asking Congress to impeach President George W. Bush. <1> The motion failed 87-60 in a roll call vote, April 25, 2007
