Craig's Lawyers: 'Senate Has No Business'
(AP) Boise, Idaho One of Sen. Larry Craig's lawyers said Wednesday the Senate has no business looking into the conduct of one of its own following Craig's guilty plea in connection with an airport men's room sex sting.

An unbroken line of precedents dating back 220 years makes clear the Senate does not consider misdemeanor private conduct to be a fit subject of inquiry, asserted Washington attorney Stan Brand.

"We ought to seek to have the committee dismiss this outright," Brand said of a Senate ethics panel's investigation. "The Republican leadership called for an ethics investigation that had nothing to do with his office," said Brand on NBC's "Today" show.

5. This is getting good.
Let Craig and the G.O.P. fight it out for months. Let the media run stories and print transcripts and play audio of his jailhouse interviews.

The Democrats on the committee should agree to hold hearings on whether or not the case should be dropped. Air them on C-Span.

7. I REALLY hate to say this,
but I hope they have extra security or protection around that Minneapolis cop who busted Craig. This Senator sounds like one vicious, vindictive piece of work and we all know what happens if you get on the wrong side of a repug.

8. next to soldiers, the GOP can't touch cops.
The GOP lives in the fear world. It is they, who campaign that only they can save us, wrapping themselves with soldiers and first responders as props. If the ever openly attacked a cop who was shown to be professional and only doing his job, well let just say loosing the White House will the the least of their troubles.

17. doesn't have to be open at all
it could be a little pressure here and there, lose your job, end up on a Watch List so your travel is inhibited and, in a rare case, find yourself in an "accident" (small plane, "attack" in an underground garage, car accident, etc). Craig looks like just the kind of mean son-of-a-bitch that would stoop that low.

9. Two questions: Who leaked the Craig arrest/plea in the first place?
How far will Craig go to get even?

They can all stick forks in each other and get their just desserts

13. GOOD QUESTION
Who leaked this in the first place?

I would say RNC/subordinates did the leaking- thinking it would be be
good diversion for a week from Gonzales.

I couldn't believe how fast the RNC threw Craig under the bus - like it was choreographed.

Now look where their nastiness & manipulation is getting them.

just desserts is right

14. Think BEYOND diversions. How many others on the Hill have dirty secrets?
Wire taps - they're not just for gathering intel on terror suspects!

Blackmail is such a dirty word, but such an effective tool to keep cowards in line.

11. I wonder whether they'll investigate airliners without working lavatories.
After all, poor ol' Larry must've flown into MSP on a plane without a functioning toilet and had to rush into the terminal restroom between flights. Poor fella.

:dunce:

It's fascinating to me that the 'entrapment' theorists don't explain this. After all, who the hell runs to the John during a connection between flights? Those airplane loos may be cramped, but at least they don't have cops in them waiting to entrap some poor shmuck just taking a crap.
