BBC switches off climate special
BBC switches off climate special

The BBC has scrapped plans for Planet Relief, a TV special on climate change, the BBC News website has learned.

The decision comes after some senior executives expressed concern that the programme concept might breach impartiality guidelines.

Celebrities such as Ricky Gervais were said to be interested in presenting the show, which would have involved viewers in a mass "switch-off" to save energy.

Environmental campaigners slammed the decision as "cowardice".

"This decision shows a real poverty of understanding among senior BBC executives about the gravity of the situation we face," said activist and writer Mark Lynas.

The article continues at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6979596.stm

How in the bloody hell can a program on climate be impartial? Impartial to whom? The greedy criminals who are making things worse?

2. Why? Just because the Conservative party is against it?
So, if conservatives oppose something, you better not advocate for it or you'll be called partisan.

4. Not entirely
The Tories are mainly silent on enviromental issues. The problem is that Channel 4 about six months back screened a show called The Great Global Warming Swindle (or something like that) and the usual faith over facts part of the electorate took that and ran with it. The Beeb, which listens far more closely to it's viewers than it should or needs to, has taken the approach of "teach the controversy" and here we are.
