Bush: "I believe that when the final chapters of the 21st century are written...."

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22370412-662,00.html

<snip>

"I believe that when the final chapters of the 21st century are written, people will say we appreciate the courage and sacrifice made by our respected countries in laying the foundations for peace," Mr Bush said. But the problem for the Republican and Liberal parties is not the judgments to be made in 2100 but what is unfolding in 2007.

3. "the Republican and Liberal parties" ???
:wtf:

I guess the Australian journalists are learning from their US colleagues how to distort and obfuscate.

But just for this reporter's information: The two major parties in the United States are called the Republican Party (funny, he got that one right) and the Democratic Party.

Geez.

15. And if the reporter meant that, probably that's what you'd have read.
Read it as, "But the problem for Bush's and Howard's parties." Howard's not from the Democratic Party, but the Liberal Party.

Bush : Republican Party :: Howard : Liberal Party.

It is, after all, an article written by an Australian in an Australian newspaper, so perhaps a small reference to Australian politics isn't entirely out of place.

16. Oh -- sorry, I get it now!
What threw me, was that Howard is certainly no liberal in our sense of the word!

My mistake.

12. After reading the opening line the to whole
article, I think they had a typo:
They wrote

GEORGE W. Bush is a winker.

Didn't they mean a wanker?

17. We can't see his greatness for all the commas in the way
But with enough perspective, ie., being God or distanced 100 years - His Greatness Will Shine Through. Thank you, Master George! Future generations will praise you! Who knew that the drunken fratboy installed as president would turn out to be such a great man?
