13. I got burned buying a digital camera a few years ago..
For about $800 which I just sold for $87

I won't get suckered like that again.

From now on any tech equipment gets bought used, at a steep discount or not at all.

14. The WOW factor has worn off already..
Technology is moving so fast that today's high tech is tomorrow's old hat.

Early adopters (and I used to be one) will pay premium prices for the latest technology.

The rest of us wait until the price drops considerably, as it invariably does with high tech gadgets.

Even the early adopters are starting to savvy up..

15. They are selling beyond their projections.
They were likely going to cut the price later in the year.

They're making enough money to do it now.

Or they should.

Anyone who doesn't know that deserves what they get themselves into.

10. They'll sell a bunch
The first few months..

And then the clones will come out.

Touch screen is old technology and wifi is *everywhere*.

I personally don't care for touch screens, no tactile feedback. It's like trying to type on one of the old "chicklet" keyboards.

18. but have you....
Used the iPhone?

The touch screen is different in several ways - It really is ultra cool.... (I know, I sound like I am 14 and talking about the next season of American Idol.)

Anyway, just drop in on an Apple store and FEEL it.... Mmmmmm.... tasty.

22. Nope, it's different.
You have to try it is all I can say.

I thought I was going to feel the same way as you describe, but now that I've had mine for several days, I am completely accustomed to it.

23. You know, I hear some variation on this argument
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 10:34 PM by Kelly Rupert
every time Apple releases something new and shiny. "Oh, it'll grab people's attention at first, but it's not that special and they'll realize that." And yet every time they get a fantastic consumer response, break profit records, and consolidate their stranglehold on the personal music player market.

This is yet another frankly astounding breakthrough in consumer-oriented design, and the importance of design is something most tech analysts are only now beginning to design. Yeah, Wifi is old tech. Yeah, touch-screen is old tech. But nobody has yet successfully implemented wifi in a music player (clunky startups like the Gremlin aside). Nobody has yet successfully implemented a touch-screen interface. With this round, they've made a major leap out ahead of their competition with the iPod Touch (while finally bringing the other lines up to speed).

27. There are a crapload of mp3 players out there on the market now..
Consumers have a lot of choices and a great many of them are a lot cheaper than Apple's

They'll make money at it but the competition is catching up to them faster and faster each time.

My wife has a Blackberry Pearl that has an mp3 player and stereo Bluetooth built in. The trackball interface is really nice and great for playing games. With a two gig chip in it you can cram more tunes in than you can listen to in a month.

Personally I don't even want a cellphone, too damn many people know how to get in touch with me already. My big problem is avoiding people I don't want to talk to. I got rid of my last cell three years ago and there's only about three or four times that I've really missed it.

My mp3 player is a tiny thing I bought off ebay for less than $20 and put a $13 two gig micro SD card in. No display at all but I don't care about that since I only put tunes I really like in it and it has a random play mode.

My next upgrade to my portable sound isn't another player, it's going to be a Stax SR-001 Mk II portable electrostatic headphone unit. I'm way more into sound quality than I am doodads.
