Iraq Vet and Marine Mom to Defy Fed Govt Threats re: Postering
Iraq War Veteran Adam Kokesh and Marine Mom Tina Richards

to Defy Federal Government Threats Against Anti-War Postering

WHO: Adam Kokesh - Co-Chair Iraq Veterans Against the War
who recently gained national media attention when the Marines threatened
him with discipline for his anti-waradvocacy.
Tina Richards - CEO Grassroots America Mother of Marine whose son
was selected to be reactivated & sent to Iraq for third tour and while fighting
against it, she had a chance encounter with Congressman David Obey
where she gained national media attention.
WHAT: Press Event to highlight Freedom of Speech, Visuals
WHEN: 1:00 PM September 6, 2007
WHERE: H St. and Jackson Place NW (between 16th and 17th sts.)
northwest corner of Lafayette Park on the north side of the
White House, Washington D.C.

Adam Kokesh, the co-chair elect of Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Tina Richards, mother of Iraq War Veteran Cloy Richards and CEO of Grassroots America, will put up posters for the September 15 March to Stop the War in defiance of threats of arrests and large financial penalties from Bush's Interior Department.

They will put up these posters on a traffic box on the corner of H St. and Jackson Place NW (between 16th and 17th Sts.), which is the northwest corner of Lafayette Park on the north side of the White House, at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 6.

Adam Kokesh stated, "It is clear the government has gotten away from the will of the people. It will take a massive amount of people willing to take action to restore our democracy. Standing up for free speech here today is just one of first steps."

Tina Richards asked, "What did my son fight for? What did our family sacrifice for? To be silenced because we don't agree with the policies of our government?"

In August, Bush's Interior Department threatened large financial penalties and the National Parks Service Police took ANSWER volunteers into custody and confiscated their postering equipment - including their political literature - before releasing them. Kokesh's and Richard's postering will be in defiance of the Interior Department / NPS actions and threats, which have come as part of an inter-agency effort that has also included almost $30,000 in fines from the District of Columbia government, and threats of fines from Montgomery County and the City of Hyattsville.

Kokesh and Richards will notify the Interior Department of their plan. They will apply the poster in compliance with the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations as they exercise their fundamental First Amendment rights.

1. That reminds me....
Once, while home on leave, the local High School aske me to come talk to the kids.

This was during one of the peaks of protests and I guess they figured, considering the type of work I did over there, that I would go all rah-rah. The pricipal even told me (nudge, nudge) to "wear what you wear every day over there".

So I did.

They were somewhat taken aback when I showed up in a ripped-up camo tee and pants and wearing Converse All-Stars. Maybe it was the bandana on my head that really bugged them. They asked me why didn't I wear my medals (as if we traipsed around wearing medals all the time). Asked me why I didn't wear jungle boots. Told them the fucking things will get you killed, doing what I do.

So I went to the guy's office and he kind of told me what to say.

Sure, buddy.

So I walk up to the microphone and started, "Just so you will know, my primary mission is the extraction of downed pilots. Sometimes we know right where they are and sometimes we just have a vague idea".

"Sometimes villagers will give us the information we want and sometimes they refuse. So we start by pitching the old people down the well."

Believe it or not, they pulled the plug on me.

The military threatened me with court-martial and I told them I had written down everything and given all (plus pics) to a reporter with the Houston Post (lie) and they just dropped it.
