Giuliani considering Haley Barbour for running mate?
NPR just reported that Giuliani may be looking at Barbour as a potential running mate. Here's an article in a local paper today about this:

PEARL — Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour stood shoulder to shoulder Tuesday and played up their similarities as leaders who dealt with two of the nation’s largest disasters.

Barbour is overseeing Mississippi’s recovery from the massive destruction of Hurricane Katrina, which swept ashore on Aug. 29, 2005. Giuliani was mayor of New York during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Neither gave a direct answer to questions about whether they might become running mates on the national Republican ticket in 2008.

When The Associated Press asked Giuliani to respond to speculation that he might choose Barbour as a vice presidential running mate if Giuliani wins the nomination, Barbour jumped in.

“I’m on hurricane duty,” said the governor, who is seeking a second term this fall and has raised millions of dollars more than his Democratic opponent, Jackson trial lawyer John Arthur Eaves Jr.

2. I have a friend from MS who calls him "Pigboy"
I think she might hate him more than Bush, even.

He sounds odious. I'm sorry.

5. What a ticket
for the Dems to run against. These two could write the book on Crony government. I've read that Haley's nephew has been extremely lucky at dipping into the post Katrina honeypot. A target rich environment for the Democrats.

7. "Leaders who dealt with two of the nation’s largest disasters"?
Let's see.

Rudy: claimed he was there shoulder-to-shoulder with the first responders, when in fact he was busily grabbing every available second of camera time. Has never copped to allowing said first responders to work in a highly toxic atmosphere for weeks, creating multitudes of health problems. Oh yes, still nothing built at Ground Zero.

Pigboy: Watched while Heckuvajob Brownie backed the Brink's truck up to his personal safe. As you are no doubt well aware, M$M reports of how shiny and happy everyone in MS is, compared to those in LA, allegedly due to Pigboy's leadership, are really just attempts to smear LA's Democratic leadership, such as Sen. Landrieu and Gov. Blanco. They are also a direct slap in the face to MS's Katrina survivors, such as our very own merh, who, I'm sure, would be more than happy to offer their own critique of Pigboy's leadership*.

Bottom line: Despite being from opposite sides of the Mason-Dixon, Rudy and Pigboy are two peas in a pod.

9. Don't forget Barbour's ties to the racist Council of Conservative Citizens:

Several mainstream figures have spoken at or attended CCC meetings, including Senator Trent Lott;Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour;Mississippi state senators Gary Jackson and Dean Kirby; and several Mississippi state representatives. Former governors Guy Hunt of Alabama and Kirk Fordice of Mississippi also spoke at CCC meetings.
