One is to tick the "Check here if you want to format your message in plain text" box up above the reply typing box. Fine if you're not using any other html in the message.

The other is just to insert a space between the "." and the "jpg", for instance. Anybody who wants to look at the image can easily go to another window/tab and paste the url in and delete the space. (One might want to point this out when one does it, to avoid "your link doesn't work" replies ...)
