Do you think Craig REALLY misdialed the phone number?
This is just too frigging weird...the guy dials phone numbers for a living, and leaves a detailed message on a stranger's voice-mail BY ACCIDENT?

I'll spell it out, as Crazy eyes would ask: What the Fuck? I mean, What the Fuck?

1. he dials phone numbers for a living?
really? Is that what a US Senator does? I've known a couple of US Senators and they have someone dial their calls for them most of the time.

19. I know what you meant
But, believe me,most Senators don't dial their own calls.

3. What makes you think he calls number for a living?
I'll bet that when he is in the office, he has someone place his calls for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a page or someone else put speed dial numbers on his phone.
He is older and probably not good at seeing the little numbers on a cell phone key pad.

4. And I'll bet he makes thousands of calls himself a year...
what are the odds the guy would call the wrong # in this particular instance and leave a detailed exculpatory message?

6. I disagree with your analysis
First, it's meaningless to talk of odds in a one-time thing. He wears glasses and is of the age where one's ability to read fine print, as on a keypad, is deeply affected. Sure, he could make a mistake.
Second, as for the message, I don't see it as particularly exculpatory. Rather, I heard it as desperate.

15. Think what thou wilt...
It gives him an 'honest' out...he's stating his 'strategery' (as though no one could figure it out) and is speaking 'from the heart'. Horseshit, however, it certainly has worked so far, hasn't it? Look to see him partially rehabbed much to the dismay of the Far Right...and some DUers.

5. Yep, I do.....
He certainly shown he is not the brightest light already by the way he has dealt with his situation, mis dialing a phone number is a minor mis-step in comparison, imo.

7. No, I think it's a scam. Did they even say who got the message and gave it to the press?
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 06:58 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
Just before he goes to "announce his INTENT to resign" he leaves this phone message on the WRONG PERSON's answering machine discussing Specter supporting him and specifically talking about using the wording "INTENT" to resign as a "weasel word" to give him an out should he change his mind, and this WRONG PERSON, who is unidentified, but apparently not some confederate of Craig's :eyes: releases it to the press?

It just seems like the guy can't bear to contemplate his future without the respect, power and influence that comes with being a U.S. Senator, and while he recognizes on SOME level that his political career is fucked, kaput, over, he can't bear that truth and is reaching out a million different ways at any desperate thread that might keep it alive.

Has any of this actually been corroborated with Specter himself or do we only have this ridiculous tape?

Does Craig have no concept that at some point, REGARDLESS of what he might or might not have done (and that's actually not in doubt), he has erased any credibility by this crazy set of reversals, and that even if he had done NOTHING (which is not the case), his actions since his arrest and plea have completely eliminated any shred of credibility he might still have possessed?

12. He's repressed the fact that he's been accused of gay activity for years.
But when you've gotten away with something long enough, you start to think you're really untouchable.

14. Supposedly, some nameless Washington D.C...not involved in politics,
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 06:57 PM by in_cog_ni_to
:eyes:person, received the voice mail "by accident" and turned it over to Roll Call....the paper that broke the story initially. Roll Call was asked by the person who gave them the voice mail message to please not use his/her name.

9. Sometimes not
Sometimes the receiving message is just, "you have reached (telephone number)."

13. Plus, he's agitated. Not thinking straight. A-hem. He's panicking.
This is what desperation, mixed with ego and privilege, looks like.

20. I assume they're always lying, but this guy is realy lying to himself.
I also don't think anyone would give him this advice. These cowards usually use groupthink to back up their intentional deceits.

10. He intended the message to "inadvertently get released" as a trial balloon, to
see if there was any groundswell of support for the idea of him staying around and challenging his own GUILTY plea.

As the only thing demonstrated is that Craig is a pitiful, desperate laughingstock, I think we'll hear little more of this and Craig will resign as previously announced.

Of course I couldn't tell you how this guy actually thinks.

11. This guy is totally BONKERS. Period. Keystone Cops, crazy.
This is the ultimate "Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight" maneuver.

Someone stick a fork in him. He's done. I wanna know when his wife throws in the towel and goes home to mother. His poor kids will deal with the realities of this confused man, because it's obious he never will.

Keith in 8 minutes! Popcorn, please!
