I honestly can't believe what I just heard
I am watching the GOP debate and am in shock. Sen Brownback got a question about whether there should be an amendment banning gay marriage. The audience was clearly split on this issue. People watching a GOP debate were split on this issue. Wow, just wow. As I live and breath I would have never begun to thought I would live to see the day.

1. Oh, I'm sure you and I both will, actually
Time is NOT on the bigots' side.

Wonder where they'll go for the next big wedge issue?

2. Well, EVERYONE has a few gay relatives, unless they have no family.
I mean, really. It's a stupid amendment. People are starting to come around, even the idiots. That's why the audience was split--a while back, and they would have been waving pitchforks. But they're starting to realize that "them" is a lot of "us" and they've got to adjust their pea brains.

3. I'm sort of listening
I should say I am trying but my mind keeps drifting away. This debate is in NH so even the republics are more liberal on social issues.

5. Remember that they stole the elections
Nothing is real with this crowd.

Remember that CRAIG is anti gay with so called "Christian Values."

The NeoCons control the media, the votes and everything else.
Their pants have been on fire for so long.

I am not shocked that the audience is split on this issue.

6. Some things are real to them: money, power, influence
What they don't see as real is YOU, & me and the rest of the "average" people in America - along with our needs, desires & concerns.

10. The myth of the all-powerful "values voter" is just that- a myth.
Unfortunately, too many of our people have bought into it, too.

What we should be doing is going after the socially libertarian, mind-your-own-business voter. End the drug war, stand up for reproductive rights and the rights of the terminally ill to make their own end-of-life choice, oppose censorship, reinstate civil liberties and the bill of rights, etc.

Then we would cut the GOP in half, because a good number of them are sick of the church lady kooks who have taken over that party.

7. Changes...
Between the fact that it seems half of the GOP are gay deep down and the fact that Massachusetts has yet not shattered and fallen into the Atlantic, it's nearly a dead issue for this cycle at least.

As time goes on, more and more states will have provisions for civil unions and slow....ly, gay marriage will come into existence even in the fire engine red states.

12. My hope is that EVERYBODY will come out of the closet

and by that I mean that all of the people who have sat silently letting politicians trash gay people just to score a few political points now have woken up and seen that they must speak up.

Most people are wise enough to see that many of these rabid public homophobe GOPers were gay themselves. The world didn't fall apart and gawd did not smite them (even if the cops and the press did.)

So it has opened up people's eyes to reality. "Teh gay" is not going away; it can't be shamed away or legislated away. It is a fact of life and the sooner we give same sex couples the same rights as everybody else, the sooner we can heal all of the hurt that the hatred and the shame and the lies have cost us.
