Audience boos Brownback’s proposal to ban gay marriage
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 09:43 PM by cal04
At the Fox News GOP presidential debate tonight, correspondent Carl Cameron asked a New Hampshire woman whether she wanted gay marriage banned. Her answer — “Absolutely not” — received cheers from the audience. When Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) then said he believes the nation should have a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, the audience loudly booed. Watch it:

A recent CNN poll found that 57 percent of the American public believe gay marriages should have the “same rights as traditional marriages.”

And Brownback drew boos from the audience when he called for passage of a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. ``I understand there is a divided audience,'' he said.

1. Sam opposes fire as well. It's too elemental.
What a mess this guy must be inside. Natty dresser, neat and tidy exterior, but beneath the department store dummy facade, I bet Sam Brownback is the devil's own rat's nest.

2. I am pretty conservative by DU standards, but I just cannot
for the life of me understand why on earth anyone would ever give even the slightest fuck about who marries who...

It makes no sense whatsoever to me. There has to be an irrational religious basis to this, because there is just no sensible argument that I am aware of.

9. I totally agree with you. However, on other boards
I've seen freepers quote bible verses stating that it's against God's wishes. I think some people have such an unnatural aversion to the thought about man/man sex that they become "religious" about it being against God's law. Somehow, most of these people think women/women sex is okay though.:wtf:

I could care less what goes on in other people's bedrooms. It's none of my business. I think that homosexuals should be allowed to marry, just like other people can.

It's mingling "church and state" issues anyway.

10. So are cotton-polyester blends.
> I've seen freepers quote bible verses stating that it's against God's wishes.

So are cotton-polyester blends, but that doesn't stop those
highly-fashionable freepers from wearing their Sansabelt
trousers made of that stuff.

They seem a bit selective about which of God's wishes they
worry about. ;)

and shaving their beards, yet the people who usually claim to be the most pious are usually short-haired and clean shaven.

22. They also keep forgetting that "it's easier for a camel to fit thru the eye of a needle...
...than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" thing http://bible.cc/matthew/19-24.htm">Matthew 19:24. They sure don't have any problem getting filthy rich on the backs of others. Look at the TV preachers wearing thousand dollar suits and Rolex watches asking old ladies to send their social security checks because "God needs money." Yeah, right, sure he does.

Maybe they need that money so they can buy silk suits in order to avoid violating the cotton-polyester blend thing?

36. Yeah, that's the usual line
Well, God fucked up and gave us free will, oopsie! If God didn't want us to go against his wishes, he should have kept that part out.

Some days I really hope the Jews are right about the whole afterlife thing, just because I'd love to see all the faces of the fundies between the time St. Peter says "Sorry, the Branch Davidians were right" and the trap door openes up under there feet.

And welcome to DU! :hi:

17. Me, too
I was living in Missouri at the time they first started trying to "excite" their base with all the anti-gay rhetoric. I thought at the time "Well, that won't work. Who cares about that in this day and age. Of course gays should be allowed to get married." I was truly surprised at all the bigots who crawled out of the woodwork.

29. Even so... why should a homophobe care about gay marriage?
I am personally afraid of flying, but I have nothing against airplanes.

How on earth can gay marriage be perceived as a threat to the institution?

27. I Can Answer You
The power elites need to make the working class believe that they have actual power, so that said working class will vote for political/economic policies which are a detriment to their best economic interest.

Thus, they appeal to the population's homophobia. IOW, the homophobic working class believes that they're voting against Gay marriage where instead they're voting for more globalization, lower wages, no healthcare, etc.

15. You're not looking for this very soon, are you?
Our current batch of Democrats don't seem to have the
intestinal fortitude to do anything that might be per-
ceived by anybody anywhere as "controversial".

Repealing DOMA, while absolutely, positively the
correct thing to do, would be "controversial".

They'll have spent 35+ years and countless billions of dollars to create the perfect fascist society - and they'll have literally nothing to show for it.

28. Nope, For Two Reasons
First, the fact that Hillary will probably end up being our nominee, the race will be Much, Much, Much Closer. The media will feed off of that, and milk it for all it's worth.

Also, the repubs will "Fix" the voting, so that it's close. Regardless of who the overall sentiment. We'll likely win, but not by as much as we should.

Oh, great. Another Republican who runs around 'understanding' stuff. They don't do anything but they 'unnerstan'...oh, sorry, slipped into GWB speak there for a second.

One would imagine that Republican presidential candidates would try harder *not* to sound like the fellow with the under 30% approval rating.

33. Lucky for Brownback the Imperial Subjects of Amerika have NOTHING to say about who rules them/us
Unluckily for Brownback, the Republic Party only plays at being American, and it is looking VERY likely that Fred ThomBush has been chosen to "win" the primaries and then "win" the "election" in 2008 (remember, Bushies only need 35% of the ACTUAL VOTE to "win" with 50.1% of the counted "votes") by his Imperial Masters.

And he'll be the pERFECT malleable empty-head and empty-suit.

I can picture it now, "Just give Emperor ThomBush two viagra in his ocffee and he'll lock himself in the room with Trophy Wife all night, then we can plan any treason we want!" says one Loyal Bushie to another.
