BBCs coverage of Pavarotti's death is
absolutely mind blowing. If you have BBC international stay there all day today. There are days I love BBC.

Fabulous coverage here for the cube rats.

4. he was an ass, arrogant, dismissive,
and he cancelled shows at the lyric when I had tix. Damn him. He was obnoxious, fat, insulting and demanding. He was as hated as he was loved.

Even when his voice was shot, and he began touring in the Three Tenors (part 1) his voice was incredible (The only time I saw him live).

Probably the finest tenor in our generation. His loss is huge.

8. Anyone who can reach down into the emotional core of those
listening (and for me, he could induce tears within seconds of the start of Nessun Dorma) and, upon recognizing the power of his gift, work so hard to take it maintstream around the world-- can't be all bad. Egotistical... I am quite certain. He did have reason to be, however, unlike many of the equally demanding, but infinitely less talented performers and other celebrities of today.

I note that as you are listing all his faults and sources of your personal antagonism towards him, you include being "fat" with "obnoxious, insulting, demanding." I find that very revealing and sad....

9. hell, I'm fat, obnoxious, arrogant, but
I didn't stand up the Lyric three times, the last of which I spent a goodly bit of money I did not have to hear him. Cold anger dies slowly. And yes, he was the greatest tenor of a generation, and in one phrase, or even one note, he would hypnotize and consume an audience. An amazing talent.

5. My fater was in Florence on business years ago, and saw him perform
before he was the lead tenor. He saved the program and framed it, he knew Pavarotti was going to be big even then. He said he blew the lead Tenor away. He was definitely a primadonna, but his talent lived up to that billing. RIP Luciano
