Iraq War Vets-or those who know-do soldiers routinely wear dosimeters? |

If you're routinely around radiation sources(like X-ray machines, nukes and the like), yes; but not for the general troop population.

3. A few years ago, I wrote a bunch of reports for DOD on... |
|
radiation safety devices, and if I remember correctly, one of my reports included dosimeters. So, assuming someone read it, at least one person at DOD knows something about them.

4. the information I have read indicates the dosimeters are used post-exposure |
|
From what I understand, the DU-laden dust has laid dormant until we stirred it up again.I'm not sure how the exposure reveals itself on a dosimeter, but the exposure is much more intense if inhaled.

6. The one I was thinking of is worn by first responders to let them know they're being exposed... |
|
It's worn by firefighters, HAZMAT teams, and so on. The one I was thinking of has It has two alarms, one to let the user know that radiation is present and one to let the user know that the level of radiation is significantly elevated. At least one model has a timer that lets the user know how much longer he or she has left before being overexposed.
