The thing about Jeri Kehn is that she's a longtime GOP lobbyist who is the driving force behind Thompson's decision to run. The way she dresses raises eyebrows, and I too chortled and snickered the first time I saw photos of her. Then I realized that there was no downside to it in the eyes of those who Thompson appeals to, and that sobered me right up.

I'm nearly 40 and it's just beneath us liberals to focus entirely on age differences and looks (and I look nearly that good, but could only look as good as her if I could afford to have my stomach done after two kids, but I digress).

There's so much more we could discuss regarding why Fred Thompson shouldn't be the next president. Unfortunately, Jere's looks will HELP him more than hurt him with the very people we need in order to win: the white male swing voters in the rural areas of our country.

Here are pictures of two presidential candidates (sort of) and their much younger wives. First off, we have Dennis Kucinich and his wife, 31 years his junior. Next is Fred Dalton Thompson, actor, lobbyist and maybe presidential candidate if he feels like with his child bride, a mere 25 years younger than he is.

Let me use photo deconstruction skills I have honed as a snarky commenter on the Princess Sparkle Pony blog.

First, Dennis and Elizabeth. You may already have been aware that Kucinich is part hobbit and a Vegan, but his wife? Redhead, lovely English accent and six feet tall. Those of you already aware of the Matty Boy HubbaHubba Scale will know that in my book, Miss Elizabeth hits the Trifecta. I don't subscribe to the She's Too Tall For Him school, and in Dennis' favor, he's trim, he has all his hair and he's done what he can to keep that hair dark and lustrous. It's kind of like Bilbo marries Galadriel. Lucky bastid.

Then there's Fred Dalton. Certainly tall enough, no question there. But he's bald, the hair he has left is gray and he's paunchy. Honestly, dude, stop getting so touchy-feely with your grand-daughter. It's creeping the rest of us out.

One local figure who knew Kehn years ago found her pretty fit for the role of first spouse back then. Even though she "seemed like a real normal kid," Robert Schillerstrom saw something special in the Naperville North High School student when he taught a Youth in Government class at the school in the early 1980s.

"She was really smart, energetic - someone you really thought would go someplace," said Schillerstrom, chairman of the DuPage County Board and a Naperville attorney. "She was someone I was impressed by."

During her time at North, Kehn spent three years as a member of the esteemed, three-dozen-strong drill team, the Starlettes, who in her junior year clinched the statewide championship. In those days, she sported a Farrah Fawcett-style mane of cascading brunette waves.
