Fred Thompson: Dead on Arrival
Did anyone else catch the Fred Thompson interview last night? It was horrendous.

Transcript here: http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODhkNWRjMWU2YWMzNWFkMDlkYWNkYmFlMzBkM2RlZDQ=

Fancy Fred was announced his candidacy to a cheering audience. Before the first commercial break, they talked about the technicalities of entering the race, and Fred expressed his desire to go out and see "the people". Of course he referred to his red pickup truck, said a lot of words, without saying much. Then, a commercial break.

After the break, Leno asked Thompson about the Iraq war and if he was for it. Fred said he was, and proceeded to give us the good old fear-mongering lines. Fancy Fred invoked Iraq's "nuclear weapons program", the "human shredders", and of course, Saddam's two mild-mannered sons.

Leno asked Thompson what it means to "get the job done"
Thompson replied by invoking the purple fingers after Iraqi elections, how our division in this country weakens our hand abroad, and Al Quaeda's desire to acquire nukes and WMD's

Leno asked Thompson about war with Iran
Thompson responded by invoking Iran's role in supplying IED's to Iraq, Sponsoring of Israel, and Fancy Fred's own suspicions that they are planning an attack on Israel. He told us of Iran's support of Hamas, Terrorism, and threats on the destruction of Israel.

Leno switched gears and asked him about how we can improve our image around the world, invoking the work of the Peace Corps during John F. Kennedy's presidency.
Thompson responded by saying that we shed more blood in this country for liberty and freedom than all the other countries put together (applause, probably by audience trolls). Then he said that we need to make the rest of the world UNDERSTAND the threat that we face in order to appear better in their eyes. Then he talked of how France was all critical of us, but elected Sarkozy. He said Sarkozy shook President Bush's hand and also said that France wants to be a friend of the United States. He pretended that all of a sudden Sarkozy is this big conservative who is totally on board with us.

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: Fred Thompson's campaign is dead on arrival. I used to fear this guy because he was an actor and not a Washington type. But if he is going to run as a goddamn Cheney neocon, we have absolutely NOTHING to fear. His campaign is over before it even started. His crazy fear and warmongering will not get him anywhere, not in '08. While I don't give the American people too much credit, I think they will figure this one out. Oh, and don't worry about charisma, he actually has very little...seriously. And he looks old.

2. Well, you forgot the fact that he also has cancer. But the rest of it, I
agree with. He has nothing to offer anybody unless you're already a GOP kool-aid drinker.

5. I really don't understand the appeal of this man.
He was a cast member on "Law and Order" - big fat fucking deal.

He sounds like warmed over George W. Bush...and we now know how popular THAT is.

As you said...DOA.

8. yeah, you're right
I'm not a supporter of Hillary (I admire her and she would have my vote if she entered the race) but isn't she an unbelievable debater? I'd love to see her debate Romney or Thompson head to head. As you said, She would WIPE THE FLOOR with Thompson.

12. I'd love to see him in a debate with one of the Dems
He's avoided answering real questions in detail. In fact, he's gone out of his way to avoid them.

Look at his response to Michael Moore's offer of a debate on health care. Thompson released a video of himself smoking a cigar and insinuating that Moore should be institutionalized.

7. From your mouth to God's ears
From what I've read about him, he'd make a horrible president. So would all the rest of the Repukes, now that I think about it. I'm hoping they'll nominate either Romney or Giuliani. The Baptists here in the Bible Belt will really squirm at having to vote for a Mormon (Baptists don't consider them "Christian") or a blatantly adulterous New Yorker *hehehe* There's nothing I love better than seeing fundamentalists squirm.

10. My God, is that all he's got?
Just more of the same BS, only intensified?

You'd think he'd say something to distinguish himself from Shrub and the neocons. Did the election in 2006 mean NOTHING to him?

And that mention of the Iraq "nuclear program" was a dead giveaway. He really has no grasp of reality.

You're right, fiore280. I don't think there's much of a threat here.

14. He seems to be very vulnerable in debates
I can image someone saying:

"Well Fred, you can say all shucks as much as you like but that won't..."

or

"You read those lines perfectly Fred, but the American people..."

So he'd get 29% of the vote. Even if the voting machines are already preprogrammed, that won't be enough.

16. Bill Maher calls him.......
'basset hound' Fred Thompson! And he does look a little like a basset hound!

Seriously, he didn't make a wise choice by beginning his campaign the way he did. He decided NOT to appear with the other GOP contenders at their debate and instead chose to announce on Leno's show!

But I guess we shouldn't be surprised.....anyone who would take a limo to get into a pick up truck, purely for image would do almost anything for publicity.

27. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG
You apply thinking-man, reasonable and logical arguments to a group of people who base their decisions on anything BUT reason and logic.

As long as Thompson continues to repeat Bush's mantra, he WILL be the nominee next year.

Remember, as KO has told us, Bush is playing for October-November...looking to endorse and support a candidate who echoes his every lie. Fred Thompson just became that man.

Here we go again.
